Meghan Markle looks back to wedding day as she wears Princess Diana’s ring in Tonga
Meghan Markle reminded fans of her spectacular Royal Wedding Day when she paid a touching tribute to her mother-in-law Princess Diana to meet the King and Queen of Tonga.
The Duchess of Sussex was spotted wearing Diana’s dazzling aquamarine ring on her right hand she made her way to the evening reception to meet the King and Queen of Tonga in a floor-length white gown.
The last time duchess Meghan Markle was spotted wearing the ring was on her Windsor wedding day in May when she stunned in her second gown of the day – a white halter neck floor-length Stella McCartney dress.
And the mother-to-be opted for a similar look tonight when showed off her baby bump in an elegant white floor-length dress by Theia Couture to meet King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau’u at Consular House in Tonga’s capital Nuku’alofa.
The striking aquamarine cocktail ring holds a special place in Harry’s heart as it belongs to his late mother, Princess Diana.
The duke decided to gift the ring to his wife-to-be at the time just before the pair tied the knot in May.
It was part of a set owned by Diana, complete with a matching bracelet featuring the stone set amid several strands of pearls.
In 1997, months before she died, Diana wore the gemstone to an auction of her own wardrobe at Christie’s.
The Princess left her jewellery collection to her sons after she tragically passed away in August, 1997 in a car crash in Paris.
Following their arrival in Tonga for the tenth day of their royal tour, Meghan and Harry attended an official reception and dinner, featuring traditional entertainment.
During the reception, Harry told Education Minister Penisimani Fifita: “Thank you for giving the schoolchildren the day off, to line the street from the airport.
“It was very nice to see so many Tongan flags.”
While the pregnant duchess was advised to “take care of herself” by a guest at the reception.
Among the dignitaries Harry and Meghan met were Justice Charles Cato, a New Zealand judge, and his Russian wife, Miriam.
Mrs Cato said: “I asked, how does she feel? She responded ‘Very well, thank you.’ I said ‘No visible signs yet!”‘
That prompted the duchess to look down at front of her dress and laugh in agreement.
Mrs Cato, 41, added: “As a doctor, I was a bit concerned about her taking all these long trips. I’m a mother of two. I know how it feels.
“I asked her to take care of herself. She promised to do so.”
