MEGHAN Markle is “devastated” according to those close to the Royal-to-be after her father Thomas Markle appeared to pull out of attending the wedding late on Monday.
Meghan Markle was utterly “devastated” last night, according to the American’s close friends a Royal commentator said, following the scandal erupting around her father, Thomas Markle.
Markle had previously declared that her father would walk her down the aisle at the royal wedding this Saturday with her mother Doria Ragland joining her on the drive to the chapel.
But, gossip website TMZ revealed last night that Thomas Markle will now not attend the wedding after being caught allowing paparazzi to take his photo.
A leading royal correspondent has revealed that this controversy may end up improving Meghan’s popularity among Britons.
Roya Nikkhah, the royal correspondent for the Sunday Times, said the scandal surrounding Mr Markle has embarrassed the Markle family far more than the Royal Family.
This comes after it was revealed that paparazzi photos taken of the 72-year-old were arranged by himself.
Mr Markle has said he regretted the “hammy” photos, which he said were an attempt to improve his reputation.
Kensington Palace said: “This is a deeply personal moment for Ms Markle in the days before her wedding.
“She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr Markle in this difficult situation.”
Ms Nikkhah told Radio 4’s Today programme: “He has been naive. He is not someone who is used to the limelight.
“From my discussions with those close to both Harry and Meghan last night, she was worried first and foremost about her dad and his health.
“They would love him to be there. but it’s going to very difficult for him to cope with the pressure he would be under.
“Clearly, he has health issues, that’s no secret now.

“At the end of the day, everyone has problems with their family and their weddings.
“Although embarrassing to begin with, this will make Britons relate even more to her. She’s just like any other bride.”
She added: “I was told last night that she was devastated, not so much for herself but for the fact that her father is unwell.”
Speculation is now mounting over who will walk Meghan down the aisle with her mother tipped for the role in a royal wedding first.
Mr Markle’s absence is unlikely to be filled by another family member and it could be down to Ms Ragland to represent both of them.
