Meghan Markle broke royal protocol by doing this before Prince Harry, royal watchers claim
MEGHAN MARKLE and Prince Harry arrived in at a Commonwealth event today at part of their new high profile role working with Commonwealth leaders ahead of their royal wedding. The Suits actress appears to have broken royal protocol by making this move, according to Twitter users.
Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33, will have their royal wedding on May 19.
An American, born in LA, Meghan has a lot of learning to do when it comes to the country she has moved to and the family she will marry into.
As a member of the Royal Family, there will be various rules Meghan is expected to follow.
At the event today for the Commonwealth Youth Forum, at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London, it appeared she may have broken one, according to social media users.
Prince Harry and Meghan attempted to shake hands with a delegate at the same time.
This caused the couple to awkwardly bump into one another.
Meghan then laughed as Harry quickly moved aside and allowed his wife-to-be to shake hands with the waiting man before him.
However, some were concerned that royal protocol dictates the royal should shake hands first.
Prince Harry was seen as being very chivalrous for allowing Meghan to shake hands with the man first.
However, there are no set in stone royal rules to dictate royals must shake hands in any order.
Meghan Markle: Prince Harry’s fiancee broke royal protocol at Commonwealth event today
Individual royals are allowed to decide how they greet the public, within reason, and Meghan has been known to dish out lots of hugs to members of the public.
One Twitter user wrote: “Doesn’t the Royal always go first? I prefer Ladies first though.”
Another said: “Its meant to be Royals first then their spouses/fiancé but love the fact that Prince Harry always let her go first it a sign of a good man and one that does not always conform to the rules.” [sic]
The royal family do stand and sit in a certain order as part of a procession, however.
The Queen goes first, as the monarch, followed by her husband. Then will come Charles and Camilla, William and Kate and then Harry and Meghan.
Meghan Markle’s dress for today’s event cost a whopping sum of money, and the outfit in total cost £2,500.
Her dress was from Altuzarra and is known as the pinstripe trench dress. It costs £1,450 from Net a Porter.
Meghan Markle’s hen do is thought to have already taken place, but how much did it cost?
It took place at a spa in the Cotswolds at the glamorous £6,000-a-night Soho Farmhouse, a source revealed.
Red7, a planner for hen and stag dos, have estimated the cost if a hen do such as this one, as well as others that famous women have had.
