Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s exit ‘creates huge problems’ for Charles’s ‘masterplan’

MEGHAN MARKLE and Prince Harry’s exit as working royals has created “huge problems” as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were meant to be part of Prince Charles’s future plans for the monarchy, according to a royal commentator.

The managing editor of Majesty magazine told the Guardian: “Harry and Meghan would have formed a major part of the masterplan for Charles’s slimmed-down monarchy.

“Removing them creates huge problems”.

Rumours Prince Charles may be planning to revamp the Firm have been circulating for years.

It is believed the Prince of Wales desires to strip down all non-working members of the Royal Family of their HRH styles to allow only core members of the Firm who work for it to bear their titles.

Prince Harry and Meghan were widely believed to be part of Prince Charles’s circle of royals set to support him once he becomes king.

And Meghan and Harry said in their first Megxit announcement they were keen to keep representing the Queen and the Crown.

However, they wanted to do so while becoming financially independent from the Sovereign Grant and live between North America and the UK.

Their proposal was deemed unworkable and, during a summit between Harry, Charles, William and the Queen, it was decided the Sussexes needed to step down as working royals if they wanted to follow through with their independence bid.

According to the terms fleshed out in Sandringham on January 18, 2020, upon stepping back Meghan and Harry renounced to their royal and military patronages, the use of their HRH styles and the word ‘royal’ in their branding and the right to carry out royal engagements.

In turn, they can now pursue financially profitable deals and live abroad.

Since last March, Meghan and Harry have established their post-royal lives in California, where they bought a home and struck financial deals.

In late 2020 they announced their partnerships with Netflix and Spotify.

Meghan also stepped into the start-up world, investing in instant superlattes firm Clevr Blends.

The Duke of Sussex revealed his interest in Silicon Valley in March 2021, when it was announced he became the Chief Impact Officer at mental health and coaching firm BetterUp.

Moreover, Harry has been appointed as commissioner at Aspen Institute to tackle misinformation in the media.

Together, the couple launched at the end of 2020 their new organisation, Archewell, which comprises their production firms and their foundation.

As working royals, in 2019 alone, Meghan and Harry carried out a combined 284 engagements – an impressive amount if considering the Duchess was on maternity leave for the most part of that year.

The couple were also leading several royal patronages which they had to renounce to after Megxit and Prince Harry had to give up his three honorary military titles.

Their departure leaves a hole that must now be plugged by other members of the Royal Family.

However, out of the 11 remaining working royals, only four are aged under-70 – the Wessexes and the Cambridges.

Since January 2020, Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, have been touted to take on more royal work to help cover for the permanent absence of Meghan and Harry.

However, asked by the Sunday Times whether the public could see “more of her” after Megxit, Sophie replied: “I am pretty busy already, so I’m not sure how much more I can do.

“There are only so many hours in the day.

“People may pay more attention to what I am doing, but I remain as busy as I have ever been.”
