Meghan Markle and Prince Harry set for ‘painfully inevitable’ feud with Netflix

Commentator Dan Wootton said the streaming giant is “demanding its pound of flesh and the Sussexes are clearly floundering”.

A Netflix source told the outlet: “Harry and Meghan are having second thoughts on their own story, on their own project.”

Another industry source added: “Harry and Meghan are panicked about trying to tone down even the most basic language. But it’s their story, from their own mouths.”

Mr Wootton claimed that the couple has “come to the painful realisation that much of the interest in them from the American media and public was because of their proximity to the Royal Family.”

He added: “But maintaining that proximity to the monarchy, now run by Charles, while waging a public media campaign against both him and his beloved wife Camilla is going to be impossible.

“Personally, I feel there’s something karmic about this moral dilemma now facing the Sussexes.”

There has been speculation that the docuseries includes a number of revelations about King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort.

The Sussexes have been followed by a camera crew led by Oscar-nominated director Liz Garbus for the docuseries.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their deal with Netflix in September 2020.

Announcing their deal with the platform, the couple said their “focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.”

In a statement, they said: “Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection.

“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.

“As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens.

“We are pleased to work with Ted and the team at Netflix whose unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action.”

Earlier this year, Meghan’s animated series, Pearl, was axed by the streaming giant as a result of cutbacks in the organisation.

The Duchess of Sussex was set to be an executive producer on the show, a feminist cartoon about a young girl learning about influential women throughout history.
