Meghan got ‘baptism of fire’ royal Christmas invite to Sandringham but Kate didn’t

MEGHAN MARKLE was inducted into the Royal Family with a “baptism of fire” invite to Sandringham at Christmas that wasn’t extended to Kate Middleton, an unearthed account claims.

However, one of her first eye-catching departures from the Firm’s usual protocol came at Christmas just weeks after she and Harry publicly announced their engagement.

Meghan made history by becoming the first fiancee of any royal to spend Christmas Day with the Queen at her Sandringham House country estate in Norfolk.

According to Richard Kay, a royal correspondent for the Daily Mail, Christmas with the royals while still a bride-to-be was a remarkable offer that even Prince William’s then-fiancee Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, didn’t receive.

“Talk about a baptism of fire, here was a rare exception being made,” he said during the 2021 documentary, ‘Secrets Of The Royal – The Markles vs. The Monarchy’.

He added: “Kate Middleton was not invited as William’s girlfriend to spend Christmas at Sandringham with the royals, but here was Meghan doing just that.”

The Queen inherited the 20,000-acre Sandringham estate after the death of her father, George VI in in 1952.

The Royal Family traditionally spends Christmas and New Year at the country pile, which is located just over 100 miles north of London.

During Meghan’s visit she was pictured in a light brown coat and hat as she made her way from Sandringham House to St Mary Magdalene Church with Harry and the other royals on Christmas Day.

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who died this year, was also in attendance, as well as William and Kate and other members of the family.

Just weeks earlier in November, Harry and Meghan announced they were engaged to be married.

Meghan revealed how Harry had proposed to her while the pair were cooking a roast chicken dinner.

At the time he said: “The fact that I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly was sort of confirmation to me that everything, all the stars were aligned, everything was just perfect.

“It was this beautiful woman just sort of literally tripped and fell into my life, I fell into her life.”

However, by the following Christmas in 2018, claims had begun to surface that the Sussexes had fallen out with some members of the Royal Family.

One claim included that Meghan had made her new sister-in-law Kate cry during the run-up to her and Harry’s wedding.

The Sun reported that Kate had been left in tears over Meghan’s tough demands for Kate and William’s daughter, Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress.

When was asked by the US host if the rumours were true Meghan said it was her who ended up crying.

She said: “The reverse happened. And I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding.

“She was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologised.”
