MEGHAN MARKLE gave a rare update on her children Archie and Lilibet during a visit to a Harlem school today, a public outing which marks the latest leg of her and Prince Harry’s New York tour.

The New York trip marks the couple’s first outing since Lilibet was born in June, and the visit sees them joining Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter at P.S. 123 Mahalia Jackson, and the couple aimed to highlight school initiatives and to promote early literacy.

During the visit, Meghan read her best-selling children’s book, The Bench, to a class of seven and eight-year-old children, in the second grade at the school.

The book focuses on a special bond between father and son, as witnessed through a mother’s eyes.

Previously, Meghan revealed the story was inspired by her husband Harry and his bond with their firstborn child Archie.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were also shown a mural painting by fourth and fifth-grade students, aged nine to eleven.

During the visit, where Meghan wore a burgundy suit and pointed-toe shoes, the couple discussed the school’s literacy efforts.

The couple, who stepped back from royal duties last year, also donated two garden boxes filled with vegetables and herbs to the school, to help support a growing need for easy access to fresh food in the community.

The scheme sees them providing health and hygiene products to the families at the school, and also a washing machine and dryer will also be provided for the school to use for students’ uniforms.

The Duchess of Sussex is also donating reading nooks to many locations for the non-profit Graham Windham across New York, to support families’ access to books.

The Sussexes’ three-day venture to the Big Apple is the first trip of this kind with formal meetings and public visits, following their step back from royal duties in 2020.

On Thursday, September 23 for the couple’s first day of their tour, the couple met with New York Governor Kathy Hochul, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and his family at the One World Trade Centre observatory.

While in the vicinity, the couple also visited the 9/11 memorial.

Later in the day, the couple also rubbed shoulders with United Nations officials, as they travelled to 50 UN Plaza for a meeting with US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield discussing COVID-19, racial justice and mental health.

The meeting was referred to as “wonderful” by the ambassador in a tweet, as she shared images of the three of them sitting on sofas in a lounge area and posing in front of UN branding.

They also attended a meeting at the World Health Organization offices, focusing on COVID-19 vaccine equity.

One stand-out item on the couple’s itinerary is a trip to Global Citizen Live, a concert aiming to promote equal access to the Covid vaccine on Saturday.

The concert held in Central Park features a whole host of big names including Jennifer Lopez and Elton John.
