Meghan and Harry’s Time cover brutally mocked as ‘a bunch of old dudes’ chose Sussexes

A ROYAL commentator has dismissed claims from fans of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that their inclusion in the top Time 100 list shows they are popular in America.

A royal commentator has hit back at claims that Harry and Meghan’s spot in the Time 100 list shows they are popular in the US. Royal blogger Kinsey Schofield discussed Harry and Meghan being named among Time magazine’s most influential people with GB News’ Mark Dolan on Saturday evening. Meghan and Harry responded to the prestigious inclusion by saying were “humbled” to be featured in the publication.

However, Ms Schofield suggested that the inclusion was not a popularity contest, pointing out that no-one “voted for or chose” the cover stars of the magazine.

Instead, she claimed that it was “just a bunch of old dudes” who made the decision.

The royal commentator said: “It really stormed the internet, didn’t it?

“What was really crazy to me is that I had all these Sussex fans in my inbox, saying we told you so.”

She continued: “But this was not an American chosen or voted on cover of a magazine.

“These are a bunch of old dudes, that run Time magazine, that are high-fiving each other because they got people to look up from their smartphones.

“These are the Sussexes’ friends, they are one of their chosen publications they have worked with since their moved to America.

“They have good relationships here with the media.”

Commentators have since suggested that the prestigious magazine accolade could ignore a “PR battle” between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their royal relations abroad as young members of the Firm jostle for prime position.

Royal author Duncan Larcombe claimed Kate and William were “concerned” as, unlike Harry and Meghan, they have “no control over the narrative.”

He said: “Kate and William are in danger of being dragged into a transatlantic popularity contest.”

Mr Larcomde added: “They will feel anxious over the cover and everything Harry and Meghan do as it always seems to reflect on them.”

Australian commentator Daniela Elser echoed this, suggesting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are staging a “strike back” with their charitable endeavours.

She added: “Harry and Meghan face being forced into a protracted PR battle with the royal house.”

Harry and William will join other senior royals in paying tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh in a BBC film.

Meghan, Kate Middleton and the Queen did not take part in the documentary, which will air on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
