Lilibet Diana christening: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shut down service speculation

LILIBET Diana’s christening plans have yet to be “formalised”, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry confirmed amid mounting speculation.

Lilibet Diana was initially expected to follow in her older brother Archie Harrison’s footsteps to be christened at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. But speculation has been rife about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry not planning to make their way back to the UK with their two young children to have the ceremony. A spokesman for the couple however confirmed on Thursday plans are still being made on where and when Lilibet Diana will be baptised.

Replying to E!, a spokesman for the couple said: “Plans for the baby’s christening have not been finalized.

“And as such, any assumptions about what will or will not take place are mere speculation.”

Some royal commentators suggested the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may opt to baptise their daughter into the Episcopal Church in the US but the statement put a hold on the speculation.

Were Lilibet Diana to be christened in the United States, she would be the first great-grandchild of the Queen not to be welcomed into the Church of England.

Older brother Archie Harrison was baptised a little over two months after his birth in July 2019.

His grandfather Prince Charles, uncle Prince William and aunt Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge were in attendance.

Princess Diana’s elder sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Baroness Fellowes, were also at the ceremony.

The Queen was unable to participate due to a previous engagement.
