The Duchess of York has a complicated relationship with the Royal Family and has remained largely out of the spotlight since her split from Prince Andrew.
The images came following the Duchess’ announcement of her upcoming book, ‘A Most Intriguing Lady’, a historical romance novel which will be available in March. In a promotional video, Sarah said: “I am delighted to bring you the most amazing, romantic historical novel…It is so exciting. It is full of seduction and scandals. Well, it is ‘A Very Intriguing Lady’.”
But while royal watchers have expressed their excitement, some commentators have shown their concern, claiming King Charles III may have to intervene if Sarah, affectionately known as Fergie, continues to be “unfiltered”.
Hosts of the Royally Obsessed podcast, Christina Garibaldi and Christine Ross, discussed Fergie’s latest social media posts, saying the Duchess of York appears to be “going rogue”.
King Charles puts new Royal Family photos on display including Harry and Meghan
King Charles held an audience with Prime Minister Liz Truss in London on Wednesday – but eagle-eyed fans couldn’t help but notice the choice of photos on display in the Palace.
A video shared of the meeting gave insight into some of the photographs chosen to be displayed by the King.
Ms Garibaldi said: “We saw these pictures with the Queen’s corgis and Fergie for her birthday over the weekend,” with Ms Ross adding: “She’s kind of going rogue with social media.”
“I do think it’s like Fergie has kind of been let off a leash a little bit with the Queen not there anymore. And I think Charles is going to have to rein her in at some point because it feels like she is just like everywhere right now,” Ms Garibaldi claimed.
The pair mentioned the Duchess’ upcoming tour of Australia, which the public can buy tickets for online but has “not been touched” by the press, and her novel which has been described as “the most anticipated historical romance of 2023”.
Ms Garibaldi: “It’s just a level of unrestrained that we haven’t seen in a long time.”
However, Ms Ross expressed some happiness over Sarah’s posts, saying: “I love just Fergie unfiltered. She’s being honest. I like her being herself.”
During a stay at Balmoral, Fergie had to walk into breakfast that morning while the family all looked at the pictures.
Speaking on Channel 5’s documentary, ‘Fergie Vs Diana: Royal Wives at War’, royal expert Jennie Bond said: “There she was, with all the members of the Royal Family, who traditionally have all the papers laid out on the breakfast table.
“The scene when she went into the dining room was horrendous because there were her brothers-in-law turning over the pages and staring at the naked top half of her body.
“It was excruciatingly embarrassing and she went to the Queen, and the Queen was livid. She was absolutely furious with Sarah.”
However, it is understood that Sarah and the Queen shared a friendship years after the toe-sucking scandal, and, following Her Majesty’s death, the Duchess paid tribute to the monarch on Instagram, writing: “I am heartbroken by the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy: the most fantastic example of duty and service and steadfastness, and a constant steadying presence as our head of state for more than 70 years…
“To me, she was the most incredible mother-in-law and friend. I will always be grateful to her for the generosity she showed me in remaining close to me even after my divorce. I will miss her more than words can express.”
Less is known about Fergie’s bond with the new monarch, with some reports suggesting the pair once had a friendship and others indicating that their relationship is complicated.
In the years since Sarah and Andrew split, the former couple have remained close but Charles’ relationship with the Duchess definitely changed.
An insider told MailOnline at the time: “She is not a member of the Royal Family any more and Prince Charles simply doesn’t have time for her. He just can’t see why she is still such a big part of his brother’s life.”
Another source told The Sun that Charles’ reasoning for not wanting to associate with Fergie was to do with her taking Princess Diana’s side years ago. They said: “Charles is not OK with Fergie. He can’t stand her in reality.
“They don’t get on personally. There’s so much baggage because he feels she sided with Diana over Camilla.”
