Pleased to meet you! Prince George’s formal hello to headteacher on first day of school
Prince George has set off for his first day at school with his doting father Prince William at his side.
The four-year-old prince, looking a little nervous, shyly shook the hand of Helen Haslem, head of lower school, as he arrived at Thomas’s Battersea, a fee-paying independent school in south London this morning.
The little prince was joined on the school run by his father, the Duke of Cambridge, who held his hand tightly as he dropped his firstborn off by the school gates in his family Range Rover.

It marks 30 years since Diana did the same for Prince William on his first day at school back in September 1989.
William held his son’s backpack as they walked to meet the lower school head and gently encouraged his son to shake hands.
“Oh look you’ve got your backpack,” Ms Haslem said encouragingly as she took George’s other hand to walk in.
William, like the other parents, stayed on as his son settled in his new classroom.

George’s mother, the Duchess, who is less than 12 weeks pregnant, was not well enough to witness the landmark moment on Thursday as she suffers crippling morning sickness.

Kensington Palace released a statement earlier this morning, saying: “The Duke of Cambridge will drop off Prince George this morning as planned”.
Kate is due to make a decision over whether she will attend Prince George’s first day at school this morning

A source said: “She would have done anything to be here.
“It’s a big day in her son’s life but she really has been very sick.”

William, who along with Kate will try to do the school run as often as possible, told Ms Haslem that George had been eagerly watching and “noticed” the other boys going into school in their uniforms
The Duke and Duchess will aim to fit their official engagements around dropping off and picking up George whenever possible.
