Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will NOT invite Trump, Obama or May to the royal wedding

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will not invite US President Donald Trump, the Obamas or Prime Minister Theresa May to the royal wedding, according to Kensington Palace.

According to the palace, there will be no official UK or overseas guests at the wedding which will take place on May 19 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have decided not to invite any political leaders to their nuptials which means even British Prime Minister Theresa May and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn will not attend the wedding.

The royal wedding guestlist has been the subject of intense speculation with many assuming the couple would invite Barack and Michelle Obama.

And it was widely believed the couple could Donald Trump, despite Meghan being an outspoken critic of the US President, due to diplomatic pressure.

Sources suggest as Prince Harry is not a direct heir to the throne there is no need for such formalities as inviting world leaders.

Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding is expected to be significantly smaller than Prince William and Kate’s which saw political leaders invited to Westminster Abbey among the 1,900 guests.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said: “It has been decided that an official list of political leaders – both UK and international – is not required for Prince Harry and Ms Markle’s wedding.

“Her Majesty’s Government was consulted on this decision, which was taken by The Royal Household.”

Prince Harry will be sixth in line to the throne by the time of the ceremony and sources say the event is being treated as a family wedding rather than a state occasion.

Invites will be sent to members of foreign royal families if they are friends of the couple.

The announcement from Kensington Palace comes as soon-to-be royal wedding guests told of their disbelief at being invited to Prince Harry and Meghan’s big day – with one saying she thought it was a belated April Fool’s prank.

Kensington Palace announced in March that 1,200 members of the public would be among the crowds allowed into the grounds of Windsor Castle to share in the atmosphere of the May 19 wedding at St George’s Chapel.

600 people will be invited to the ceremony, with 200 of those invited to the day expected to attend the exclusive evening celebrations at Frogmore House.

Members of the public chosen to attend the Windsor wedding next month include a teenager who campaigns to raise awareness of difficulties for deaf people, and a mother who uses the arts to help people with mental health issues.

A 12-year-old girl left traumatised when she was caught up in the Manchester Arena bombing has decided to take the grandmother of a teenager who died in the terror attack with her to the royal wedding.

Amelia Thompson said she was “speechless” when she found out she was being invited to Harry and Meghan’s marriage next month.

A year ago, she was among the crowds when the bomb went off in the foyer at Manchester Arena and suffered trauma as well as damaged vocal cords from screaming at the horror of what she was witnessing.

Since the attack, Amelia and her family have met others affected by the bombing through fundraising efforts, including a photo shoot.

The teenager said she asked her mother, Lisa Newton, whether she would forfeit her chance of going to the wedding in favour of their friend Sharon Goodman, whose 15-year-old granddaughter Olivia Campbell-Hardy was killed in the attack.

Amelia said she now looking forward to going out to buy a dress, saying the only official guidance they have had so far is to “dress for a posh wedding”.

She said she had no idea her mother had nominated her.

“I was speechless, I could not respond I was so excited,” Amelia said.

“I can’t get my head around it. I’m so excited to go.”

Pamela Anomneze, the manager of Studio 306 Collective CIC, a social enterprise that helps those recovering from mental health issues through the creative arts, said she felt “excited and overwhelmed” to be one of the chosen guests.

She said: “I got an email informing me, and I thought it was an April Fool’s prank.”

The mother-of-three described the honour as “truly unbelievable”, saying the engaged pair are the “world’s most beautiful couple”.

The 52-year-old, from Haringey, London, will take her 15-year-old son Jude Anomneze-Collins as her plus one, after he made a heartfelt plea to attend alongside her.

“He used to watch Suits. When I came home and informed him of the invite he was down on his knees begging to go. He said ‘Oh mum, just to get a glimpse of Meghan Markle!”‘

She said she may wear a colourful outfit traditional to her native Nigeria, but will leave the decision up to her colleagues at the Studio 306 Collective.

Ms Anomneze said: “I want to think about what to wear and seek advice from my team. I want the Collective collectively to advise me.”
