Kate’s stark similarity with Prince Philip unveiled as she readies for Queen Consort role

KATE, Duchess of Cambridge, sees her role within the Royal Family much like Prince Philip used to, according to a leading royal biographer.

Appearing on Mail +’s Palace Confidential, Mr Morton was discussing what Princess Diana would think of her daughters-in-law.

Meghan and Diana, he said, have completely different personalities, with the late princess being shyer and less self-assured than the Duchess of Sussex.

On the other hand, she shared similar traits with Kate.

He said: “She admired Americans, so I think she would have admired Meghan.

“But at the same time, I think she would have warmed to Catherine because Catherine – like Diana – was shy, she was a product of her background and the worked through it.

“She sees her role as supporting her husband, just as Prince Philip saw his role supporting the Queen.

“Two couples who supported each others through the vicissitudes of royal life.”

Kate joined the Royal Family by marriage 10 years ago this month.

The Duchess of Cambridge has steadily grown in her role, acquiring more patronages within the years and launching more solo initiatives.

Kate currently holds 20 royal patronages, all focused on causes close to her heart.

Among them, there are mental health, children’s development and standing by the NHS.

The Duchess was last appointed patron of an organisation in December, when she and Prince William became joint patrons of NHS Charities Together.

Unlike Diana and Meghan, Kate remained a girlfriend of her royal partner for years before tying the knot.

This time as boyfriend and girlfriend gave Kate the chance to get to know not just William but also the Royal Family and what being part of the Firm means.

Royal author Robert Lacey claimed the Duke felt he had to “audition” his wife for the roles of future Princess of Wales and Queen Consort.

Appearing on ITV’s The Day Will and Kate Got Married, he said: “It’s been said that William was auditioning Catherine for her future role.

“And I think there’s a truth to that. William is the future King of Britain and the Commonwealth and, like it or not, part of his job was to choose a consort who would do the job well.”

Prince Philip, who is turning 100 on June 10, has been the Queen’s most trusted advisor for more than seven decades.

The Duke of Edinburgh joined the Royal Family in 1947 upon marrying then Princess Elizabeth.

Since, he has acquired hundreds of royal patronages, many of which he still retains to this day.

Between February 1952, when the Queen acceded to the throne, and August 2017, when he retired from public duties, he carried out 22,219 solo engagements.

The trust the Queen has in Prince Philip was analysed by royal biographer Ian Lloyd while discussing what could the Duke tell the Queen in the midst of the crisis with the Sussexes.

The author of The Duke: 100 Chapters in the Life of Prince Philip told Express.co.uk in March: “The marvellous thing, of course, is that the Queen can trust him 100 percent.

“I am sure she can also trust some of her courtiers but you never quite know what’s going to get out.

“With him, she can discuss the situation totally in private and he would give advice and offer support – that would be invaluable.”
