KATE, Duchess of Cambridge delighted royal fans on Wednesday by wearing a pair of £10 earrings from ASOS while visiting a mental health text service she helped to establish.

Kate, 40, is often commended for her exceptional sense of style and has been dubbed a style icon across the world. The desire to emulate Kate’s style has long been coined the ‘Kate effect’, and a sell-out of the item she’s been spotted in is pretty much inevitable as royal fans scramble to acquire The Duchess’s must-have pieces.

Kate donned gold-plated earrings from online fashion retailer ASOS, which cost just £10, on Wednesday, as she publicly marked the major milestone of a project she launched with Prince William, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

Kate met with volunteers, clinical supervisors and fundraisers at Shout 85258 and thanked them for their invaluable efforts in supporting the growth of the service.

The free and round-the-clock mental health text service was launched by the Royal Foundation in 2019 and is staffed by thousands of trained volunteers.

And it was backed by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Since its launch, more than one million conversations between Shout staff and people struggling with their mental health have taken place.

The service was derived from the legacy of the Heads Together campaign created in 2016 by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

The campaign aimed to break down the stigma surrounding people with mental health.

For the visit, mother-of-three Kate wore an olive green patterned dress with a pussy-bow neckline by US designer Derek Lam.

She paired the designer dress with a pair of suede high heel boots from Ralph Lauren which finished below her knee and a matching black waist belt.

The ensemble was paired with simple and understated jewellery including the £10 ASOS earrings.

Royal fans were particularly delighted to see that she’d worn something with such an affordable price tag, so they could get their hands on the exact same design.

Many fans expressed their disbelief that the royal, who has worn a host of designer garments in the decade she’s spent as a member of the Royal Family, would opt for an affordable accessory.

While Adam Leatherbarrow praised the Duchess for being “normal”, by writing: “£10! She really is just like us normal folk!”

Another user called Debbie Laughton was in disbelief at the price, writing: “Gosh… just £10?”

And Evans Einstein wrote: “Her smile, her beauty, her passion. Britain’s future Queen is an epithet of brilliance. #DuchessofCambridge”

A third, Isabel.C.Martins, added: “HRH Catherine is beautiful in any look”.

This is not the first time the Duchess has worn the ASOS earrings, as she’s previously donned the accessory on two other occasions.

Kate wore them when she delivered a keynote speech at an event hosted by The Forward Trust in October.

Kate’s wore a pleated skirt and a knitted turtle neck jumper in the same bright red hue, with the hoops as her main accessory.

She also wore them while attending the re-opening of the V&A Museum in London in May 2021.

The Duchess paired the purse-friendly hoops with a red houndstooth dress by Alessandra Rich for the occasion.

An Instagram post from the engagement was shared on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s official page, and royal fans left hundreds of comments.

Many simply posted red heart emojis, while others praised Kate for raising awareness of Shout’s work.

A user called alexiscaught wrote: “What I wish people could know, is how genuinely concerned and interested in the issues both the Duke and Duchess are. She always asks very astute and engaged questions”

While another fan added: “What a great job she’s doing. And she’s such a beauty”
