Kate Middleton’s trip to Sainsbury’s to buy Halloween costumes: ‘Couldn’t believe it’

KATE MIDDLETON once made a trip to Sainsbury’s to buy Halloween costumes, with one fellow shopper saying she “couldn’t believe it” in a throwback interview.

Many people may opt for an outfit purchased from a supermarket – and it seems that some members of the Royal Family are no different.

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, 39, has previously been spotted perusing the aisles of Sainsbury’s for Halloween costumes.

It is unknown if the Duchess and her husband Prince William have any Halloween plans this year.

However, back in 2019 Kate left shoppers astonished as she shopped for costumes with two of the couple’s children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

The Duchess was seen in her local branch of Sainsbury’s on the Hardwick Industrial Estate, Norfolk, according to an unearthed report by Mirror.co.uk.

Kate reportedly chatted to children in the store about their ideas for their own Halloween costumes.

The Duchess was seen using the self-service checkouts and was followed by a bodyguard.

Another Sainsbury’s shopper, Kathy Whittaker, a mother of four, was quoted after she spotted the Duchess.

Kathy said: ‘Another shopper said that Kate was in the shop near the clothing and pointed where she was to me. I just couldn’t believe it.

“She was with Charlotte and George looking at Halloween outfits but her bodyguard was kind of watching people with phones and telling them no pictures.

“You just don’t expect it to happen, you think Kate would shop in Waitrose or Harrods.”

Kate has been seen more than once in Sainsbury’s, however, having also browsed the clothing section in 2020.

The supermarket is a short drive from her and William’s Anmer Hall residence.

The Cambridges split their time between the Georgian country pile and Kensington Palace, their royal residence in London.

Anmer Hall is on the Queen’s Sandringham Estate and was used as William and Kate’s full-time home between 2015 and 2017.

Speaking about Kate’s 2019 visit to Sainsbury’s, Kathy was quoted by local newspaper, the Wisbech Standard, as praising the Duchess for doing “normal” things.

She said: “It was lovely to see her [Kate] just being a normal mum shopping with her kids, she doesn’t live far away so I suppose this is her local supermarket.”

She added: “It was so lovely to see the Duchess doing normal stuff that we all do.

“It was so lovely to see her, she is always beautiful. You don’t expect to see that when you go shopping. I couldn’t concentrate on my shopping.”

The paper reported that Kate was wearing black trousers paired with a black polo neck.
