Kate Middleton wears pink after ‘unwanted publicity’ to show ‘kindness’ and ‘confidence’

KATE MIDDLETON is known for impeccable fashion taste and stylish outfits. The Duchess usually wears a mixture of dresses, shirts, and suits, but in recent months, she has been increasingly seen wearing a pair of black smart trousers, often paired with a top and a long coat.

The top and coat’s regularly match too – in a colour with a meaning behind it. What is Kate trying to convey through her clothes?

Fashion expert and personal stylist Samantha Harman agreed that Kate has developed a “bit of an uniform”.

She said: “Kate has really hit her style stride over the last couple of years and trousers, a jacket and coat have become a bit of a daytime uniform.

“She is tall and slim and looks great in trousers.

“But, let’s be honest, she could wear a paper bag and look a million dollars.”

Samantha continued: “I think the trouser look says ‘confident and ready for business’.

“And ready for business is certainly something she and William need to be right now.”

The personal stylist here referred to the Royal Family’s unwanted press attention this year, particularly following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Oprah interview at the beginning of the year and, more recently, the airing of the new BBC documentary, The Princes and the Press.

Samantha added: “This has not been a good year for the Royal Family.

“At a time when the Queen is stepping away from public life due to her age and health, the pressure is really on.”

Samantha claimed the colours Kate wears for public engagements are carefully chosen and even help her cope with this pressure.

Interestingly, the Duchess opted for pink outfits after the broadcasting of two difficult programmes for the Royal Family to watch, or be a part of – the Oprah interview and the BBC documentary.

Back in March, the day after the release of the Oprah interview, Kate stepped out in a pale pink ensemble.

Meanwhile, last week, the Duchess wore a deep fuchsia-pink outfit the day after the BBC documentary was aired.

Samnatha said: “In colour psychology, pink says kindness, compassion and nurturing.

“After a bit of unwanted publicity, it is possible that Kate chose to wear pink – whether consciously or subconsciously – because she wants to portray these qualities.

“Bright colours also say ‘confidence’ – it could be a way of portraying safety.

“Saying, ‘yes the Queen is stepping back, yes it’s not been the best year for the Royal Family, but don’t worry, you’re in safe hands with me’.”

The fashion expert added: “Whatever is going on behind closed doors, Kate is totally professional in public.

“She’s always smiling, interested and enthusiastic.”
