Kate Middleton and Prince William are among the most senior members of the British Royal Family as second in line to the British throne. But where did Prince William and Kate first meet and when did they get married?
Where did Prince William and Kate first meet?
Kate and Prince William met at the University of St Andrews in Scotland in 2001. The Duchess of Cambridge admitted she felt shy and nervous when she was first introduced to the then-bachelor Prince William.
Kate said: “I actually went bright red when I met you and scuttled off feeling very shy about meeting you.
“William wasn’t there for quite a bit of the time initially, he wasn’t there from Fresher’s Week, so it did take a bit of time for us to get to know each other.
“But we did become very close friends from quite early on.”
Both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge studied the history of art at university.
The two reportedly became friends early on in their relationship, however, the two did not become a couple before 2003.
And today, the royal power couple have three children together – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Although the royal’s love story started blooming at university, Kate and Prince William split up for a brief period of time, before getting back together.
The break is said to have taken place over the Christmas period in 2006.
Prince William said: “We did split up for a bit.
“We were both very young, it was at university and we were both finding ourselves and being different characters and stuff.
“It was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up.
“It was just a bit of space. It worked out for the better.”
Kate added: “At the time I wasn’t very happy about it but actually it made me a stronger person.
“You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realised.
“I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you’re younger.
“I really valued that time, for me as well, although I didn’t think it at the time.”
