KATE Middleton “left in tears” fearing for her relationship with Prince William after the royal unexpectedly changed plans to spend the holidays with her, a new documentary has claimed.

“[Expert] Katie Nicholl added that the Queen and Prince Charles both urged William not to rush into anything.

“Unfortunately, tensions seemed to hit a boiling point when William made a last-minute decision one holiday season and canceled plans to New Year’s with the Middletons.

“Their brief split happened shortly after. Thankfully, the young couple was able to work things out, reportedly, even the Queen was upset by the news of their breakup.”

In her book, The Making of a Royal Romance, Ms Nicholl wrote: “William had been having second thoughts and sat down with his father and his grandmother to have a frank discussion about his future with Kate. Both advised him not to hurry into anything.”

Kate caught Prince William’s eye during their first year in a charity fashion show at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

They lived together in the residence hall and became friends before they started dating between 2001 to 2005.

After their brief split, the couple took a romantic trip to Seychelles in August 2007, where they booked the entire resort and checked in under the fake names Martin and Rosemary to keep their relationship under wraps.

A local source revealed said at the time: “They thought it would be fun to use joke names.

“They are enjoying pretending to be an ordinary young couple in love on a romantic holiday.”

Kate was seen by William’s side in April 2008 when he received his wings upon completing his RAF training.

However, they soon parted ways in the year 2007 when Kate demanded commitment in the relationship and William wanted to enjoy his freedom to think over for a serious relationship.

The couple was pictured at Cheltenham races when the Clarence House decided to comment on the same, BBC Royal Correspondent Peter Hunt said: “It’s a surprise because it had seemed very stable and very steady.

They announced their engagement in November 2010, with William proposing with his late mother Princess Diana’s blue sapphire diamond sparkler ring.

They got married on April 29, 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London, and Kate officially became known as the Duchess of Cambridge after the Queen gifted the title of Duke of Cambridge to Prince William.

In a significant move away from their cancelled plans in 2006, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been known to split their Christmas holidays between Sandringham and the Middletons’ home in Berkshire.
