Kate Middleton has closed her own car door just like Meghan video reveals
Meghan Markle , 37, and Prince Harry, 33, had their wedding in May. Since then the new American royal has won many fans. She shocked some yesterday on her first solo outing by shutting her own car door. But is this really so strange for a royal to do?
Meghan Markle attended her first royal event without Prince Harry yesterday, and had barely arrived before she caused controversy.
Duchess Meghan impressed the public by closing her own car door at her first solo event as a royal.
Royal Correspondent for The Sun, Emily Andrews, wrote: “#duchessofsussex arrives at the RA.
“A princess who still takes the time to shut her car door. Well done Meghan!”
Meghan Markle Kate Middleton news: Latest video reveals Duchess of Cambridge closes own car door
While it may seem unsurprising that a woman might close her car door, it appears some felt the move was unprecedented for one such as Meghan.
Another social media user commented: “First time I’ve seen an on-duty princess shut her own car door…”
Some questioned whether this was a breach of royal protocol.
However, others were quick to point out that this behaviour is not actually unique to Meghan.
Royal expert and commentator Victoria Murphy Tweeted a video of Kate Middleton closing her own car door.
She wrote alongside the image: “Well done to @TeaCambridges for finding a video that may stop this crazy Meghan is the first royal to ever shut a car door narrative. She says hopefully…”
The video shows Kate in a blue coat stepping from a car before slamming the door shit behind her.
She then shakes hands with a man greeting her.
And in yet another video Kate is seen closing the car door of a Range Rover while holding Princess Charlotte in her arms on the way to church on Christmas 2016.
One Twitter user noted: “This whole story is not a breach of protocol and it’s really silly. Since when someone shutting a car door should be a headline?”
Another said: “Admittedly I am an American so I am sure I don’t understand all the protocol, however there wasn’t anyone standing close to Meghan waiting to close the door for her. Was she supposed to just walk away and leave it standing open? That seems so rude.”
Meghan is creating her own path as a Duchess, and has begun her royal career by launching an enterprising cook book.
The charity project aims to raise money for those who were affected by the tragic fire in Grenfell Tower, Kensington, London, last year.
The Duchess gave an impassioned speech at the launch of the project last week, where she wore a £1,483 outfit.

Who is Meghan Markle? Quick profile
Meghan Markle was born Rachel Meghan Markle, on August 4, 1981 to parents Doria Ragland and father Thomas Markle.
Her father was previously married to Roslyn Loveless and Meghan has two elder half sibling – sister Samantha Markle and brother Thomas Markle Junior.
Meghan’s first television appearance in the USA was in an episode of the medical drama General Hospital in 2002.
She later moved on to roles in CSI, Without a Trace and Castle along with bit parts in Hollywood films including Get Him to the Greek, Remember Me and Horrible Bosses.
Meghan was also a “briefcase girl” on Deal or No Deal – but her most famous role was as Rachel Zane in legal drama Suits, which launched in 2011.
She was written out in the finale of the seventh series when her character got married, which aired in April 2018 – just before she got married herself.
Charity and humanitarian work
Meghan Markle’s career in television has gone hand-in-hand with her support for causes close to her heart.
She wrote about the stigma around menstrual health in an article for Time magazine and was a Global Ambassador for World Vision Canada – with whom she travelled to Rwanda for the charity’s Clean Water Campaign.
And her commitment to gender equality has seen her work with the United Nations – receiving a standing ovation in 2015 for her speech to mark International Women’s Day.
In September 2011, she wed film producer Trevor Engelson, who she began dating in 2004.
But the pair divorced two years later in August 2013, citing irreconcilable difference.
She was in a relationship with celebrity chef Cory Vitiello for almost two years, before they broke it off in 2016 but the two remain good friends.
And in June 2016, she met Prince Harry on a blind date set up by a mutual friend.
Their relationship began in October that year and just over one year later, on November 27, 2017, the pair announced their engagement.
They married on May 19, 2018 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
Some have claimed Meghan Markle is the first mixed-race member of the Royal Family.
Historians are still arguing about Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III.
But Meghan will be the first royal to openly embrace a mixed-race heritage.
She has written about the difficulties of being a biracial actress in Hollywood as she claims she is not black enough for some roles and not white enough for others.
