Kate and William ‘chose to break protocol’ like Princess Diana with Prince George decision

KATE, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William “followed in the footsteps” of Princess Diana when they insisted on breaking with royal tradition with Prince George.

Ms Fiorito told listeners: “There’s always a lot of attention on and after these Australia tours.

“It’s always one of the biggest ones that they take.

“So the Cambridges’ one was seven years ago, which is wild.

“Prince George was just a baby – he was only eight months old.”

Ms Bowie added: “All in all, for the Cambridges, their tour went off without a hitch.

“Prince George was so little, but following Princess Diana, William and Kate chose to break protocol and bring him along.

“I always think of his interaction with the bilby at Taronga Zoo.

“In general, bringing a baby adds another variable so I think that’s why royal watchers are so drawn to it.”

She continued: “There’s no way to predict what will play out.

“Harry and Meghan did the same thing bringing Archie to Africa when he was only four months old.

“So they really followed in the footsteps of their parents.”

Diana famously insisted on bringing William on the tour, in a break from tradition.

The Queen and Prince Philip did not bring five-year-old Prince Charles or three-year-old Princess Anne with them when they visited in 1954.

Royal author Jane Connors explained: “The Queen would never travel with Charles in case they both went down, and Charles was not supposed to travel with his new son.

“Bringing William was what made it really different.

“There was a huge amount made of Diana being a breath of fresh air and [so] modern. It was enormous.”
