KATE, Duchess of Cambridge, will host a Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey next month, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

Kensington Palace said this never-before-seen engagement will bring together “inspirational individuals” who have gone above and beyond to care and protect those in need across the UK.

Those who have experienced loneliness or bereavement over the past months will be among guests at the special service.

Representatives of key areas of interest for the Cambridges and their foundation will also be present.

Mental health, supporting families and understanding the importance of the Early Years will surely be among the themes featured during the festive evening.

News of the service was announced to the public by William and Kate via their official Twitter account.

A string of tweets read: “This Christmas we are celebrating the incredible work of individuals and organisations across the nation who go above and beyond to support their communities.

“Next week, The Duchess will host a Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey, supported by The Royal Foundation, bringing many of those inspirational people together.

“The service, which will be broadcast in December, will look back on the last 18 months.

“To think not only of the unprecedented challenges that we have all faced as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, but also to remember the positives: people and organisations pulling together in their communities, the small acts of kindness across different demographics and generations, and the unsung heroes who stepped up to help others.”

The tweets were accompanied by a picture showing an invite to the event bearing Kate’s monogram.

The letter read: “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, supported by The Royal Foundation and with grateful thanks to the Dean and Chapter of Westminster Abbey, requests the pleasure of the company of [blank] at a Carol Service at Westminster Abbey, London, SW1P 3PA on Wednesday 8th December at 5pm.”

Kensington Palace also said the service has been developed and delivered in partnership with Westminster Abbey and BBC Studios Event Productions, which will also produce the service for ITV to broadcast as part of a special programme in December.

This comes after it was claimed last week Kate was to lead a charity Christmas carol programme and the Cambridges had banned the BBC from screening it amid fury over the broadcaster’s two-part documentary The Princes and the Press.

The palace did not comment on this report at the time.

It is not unusual for the BBC Studios to create programmes for other broadcasters – as it happened in 2019 when they produced a two-part documentary on Prince Charles and the Duchy of Cornwall for ITV.

The Princes and the Press, the second episode of which was aired on Monday, explored the relationship between William, Harry and the media from 2012 to today.

The BBC reportedly angered the three royal households not just for reporting damaging claims – including one stating Kensington Palace and Clarence House had “briefed” the press against Meghan Markle – but also for not being given the chance to view the documentary before its broadcast.

Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace and Clarence House joined forces and issued a rare statement to the BBC last week, which read: “A free, responsible and open press is of vital importance to a healthy democracy.

“However, too often overblown and unfounded claims from unnamed sources are presented as facts and it is disappointing when anyone, including the BBC, gives them credibility.”

Kensington Palace’s decision to confirm the reports over the Christmas carol service delighted royal fans.

One social media account supporting Kate and William, called The Cambriges, tweeted: “Omg this is such a great way to celebrate amazing people and organisations!!!

“I’m so excited and I can’t wait to watch the service”.

A third royal fan, with the nickname mrc, wrote: “What a fantastic way to come together, to recognise the many people that have supported others.”

Jill Gradon tweeted: “This is wonderful. I can’t wait to see this.”

And Twitter user sunshine breeze added: “God Bless you & hope that all the charities reach the goal they have set to help the needy & poor people at this holiday season approaches.”
