The Duchess of Cornwall celebrates her 74th birthday today and messages of celebration have been pouring in for Camilla from royal fans. Now William and Kate have sent their own message to Camilla.
Writing on Twitter, they posted a picture of the Duchess of Cornwall and wrote: “Wishing The Duchess of Cornwall a very happy birthday today!”
The Royal Family’s official Twitter account also sent their own message to the Duchess of Cornwall.
They wrote: “Wishing The Duchess of Cornwall a very happy birthday today! #HappyBirthdayHRH”.
Camilla and Prince Charles started dating back in 1970 after meeting during a polo match at Windsor Great Park.
The couple dated for a while before Charles departed to serve in the Royal Navy for eight months.
By the time he got back, Camilla was engaged to Andrew Parker Bowles, who she married in 1973.
Charles – who married Princess Diana in 1981 – later had an affair with Camilla.
In 1994, Charles admitted he had cheated on Diana and a year later, Camilla announced her divorce from Andrew.
In 2005, Charles and Camilla announced their engagement and married in a civil ceremony.
Camilla gained the title of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall so the late Diana could stay the only Princess of Wales.
The Prince of Wales will be crowned King when Queen Elizabeth II either steps down or passes away.
But Buckingham Palace has previously stated Camilla will be known as Princess Consort instead of Queen.
Back in May, the Duchess of Cornwall’s son, Tom Parker-Bowles said there could be a chance Camilla could receive the Queen title as her role has not been decided yet.
He told The Times: “I honestly don’t know if Mum will be called Queen.
“That hasn’t been decided.
“There are lots of interesting Sky documentaries about that I’m sure, but I honestly don’t know if that’s true.”
Last year, Charles and Camilla faced backlash following the release of the fourth season of The Crown.
The new season featured topics including Prince Charles’ marriage to Princess Diana, and portrayed his affair with Camilla and the Princess of Wales’ eating disorder.
Speaking back in January this year, royal expert, Robert Lacey, warned the public is still coming around to the thought of King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Prior to Prince Philip’s death in April, Mr Lacey said: “This new generation of the Royal Family is very important to the Crown and very important to the nation.
“As we look ahead, we obviously hope Prince Philip and the Queen are blessed with long lives, but mortality takes its toll.
“We’re not quite sure what to think about King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
“I think most people still are [coming around to the thought of Charles and Camilla].
“Whichever side you take, you have to acknowledge Camilla was the source of the conflict and the heart of the marital breakdown [of Charles and Diana] from whose consequences these boys [William and Harry] have suffered.”
Mr Lacey went on to say how Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, are “more attractive to most Britons” than Charles and Camilla.
