Kate and Meghan Markle dazzle as guests arrive for Prince Charles’ 70th birthday bash

KATE, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Meghan Markle have arrived for Prince Charles’ 70th birthday bash being hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace last night.

Kate and Prince William, who was driving their dark SUV, arrived at the Palace followed by Prince Harry and Meghan in another vehicle. Meghan could be seen through the windscreen sporting some very heavy diamond earrings for the occasion. Kate also followed suit with a pair of stunning diamond earrings with a pink-jewelled centre to match her rose-pink dress. Prince Charles and Camilla were also pictured entering the Queen’s London residence.

Other guests who have arrived include Princess Eugneie and her new husband Jack Brooksbank as well as the Earl of Snowdon, Grand Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg, Lady Helen Taylor and Santa Montefiore.

As the celebrations began the Queen gave a touching tribute to her son Charles as she toasted his 70th birthday.

The monarch began the toast by saying: “It is a privilege for any mother to be able to propose a toast to her son on his 70th birthday.”

Kate and William had quite the journey to Charles’ celebration tonight as the pair attended an engagement in South Yorkshire today.

Kate followed in Meghan’s footsteps as she rolled up her sleeves and gave a helping hand in a charity kitchen.

The Duchess and her husband William helped slice bread and served soup at a Centrepoint hostel in Barnsley after the pair attended the opening of the McClaren Composites Technology Centre in Rotherham.

Meanwhile Prince Charles appeared to be enjoying his birthday as the heir to throne received gifts at various events to mark his special day.

Even Camilla revealed she had given her husband a gift – but refused to say what it was.

In response to a question about whether she found a birthday present for Charles, Camilla chuckled and said: “I did but I am not telling.”

Charles was presented with a colourful 70th birthday balloon as well as a present in a silver gift bag by members of the press as the Prince arrived for a tea party at Spencer House.

One reporter said to Charles: “We thought it might amuse you sir, we were a bit worried after reading Country Life.

“We thought the beloved red squirrels might be interfering with the bird tables.”

Clearly delighted Charles smiled and laughed as he replied: “Where do you find these terrible things?”

The gift contained squirrel repellent which was a nod to Charles’s editorial for this week’s Country Life where he urged the nation to take care of Britain’s countryside.

In it Charles confessed his affection for the “incredibly special creatures” which he allows to run around inside his house at Birkhall.

Prince Charles and in an interview for the publication admitted his father is “completely infatuated” by red squirrels and even gives them names.
