HEARTBREAKING NEWS: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might not be able to Marry
Meghan Markle: The WORRYING reason why Prince Harry and his Canadian girlfriend might not be able to marry
THE Queen is important when it comes to deciding the fate of Prince Harry’s relationship.
Since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry confirmed their relationship in November 2016, their romance has really progressed with speculation that the loved-up pair are could announce their engagement any day now.
Suits star Meghan was invited to stay at Kensington Palace in the summer to meet the royal family and it appears she even attended Kate Middleton’s sister Pippa’s wedding.
The pair also recently jetted off for a top secret holiday to South Africa for her birthday where it’s believed Prince Harry proposed.
However, if there’s a future for the actress and the royal then they may have one main concern.
For the sake of their on going relationship, it’s vital that Meghan gets on with and impresses Queen Elizabeth.
One concern for the couple, as Meghan was once married before, is thought to be the fact royals traditionally can not marry divorcées.
However, in 2005, the Queen gave permission for Prince Charles to marry fellow divorcée Camilla Parker Bowles, now the Duchess of Cornwall.
And while the Queen has appeared to approve Harry dating Meghan, they would need her permission to marry, despite the laws becoming less strict in recent years.
In 2013, the traditional Royal Marriages Act was repealed in favour of the Successions to the Crown Act.
This meant that only the first six in line to the throne needed the Queen’s permission in order to marry.
As well as people who had been divorced, traditionally the royals were also unable to marry a ‘commoner’, which could be another issue for the couple.
The Royal Marriages Act of 1772 also prohibited the marriage of royal family members to anyone not of noble blood.
However now, as long as the Queen approves of the individual marrying into the family, the marriage is considered valid.
The most recent example of this was Kate Middleton marrying Prince William, and then later becoming Duchess of Cambridge.
