Heart Breaking Tragedy Beind Prince Louis Arthur Charles Name
ROYAL BABY: Prince Louis Arthur Charles is the name Kate Middleton and Prince William have chosen for their second son and third child, and this comes as a surprise to many. Was the name chosen for its French origins? It is believed there is another tragic reason.
The royal baby name was announced yesterday in a tweet from Kensington Palace as Prince Louis.
Many were shocked by the name choice of Kate Middleton, 36, and Prince William, 35, for their third child.
This was not just because it was so far down on the bookies’ favourite royal baby names list – with Arthur, James and Albert taking the top spots.
The other reason was the name’s French origins – as the fifth in line to the throne, it might be imagined Louis would have received a more British name, like his siblings Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 2.
Louis is a name more associated with the now abolished French monarchy than the British monarchy, thanks to the last king of France, King Louis XVI, who ruled from 1774 to 1791.
However, it would appear the couple’s name choice is not because of its French heritage.
Instead, the name is a touching tribute to Lord Louis Mountbatten, the beloved great uncle of Prince Charles, 69, who is Prince Louis’s grandfather.
Lord Mountbatten was killed in tragic circumstances at the age of 79 in the Republic of Ireland in 1979, when the IRA placed a bomb in his boat.
Prince Louis’s great grandfather, Prince Philip, 96, is also believed to have been close to the late Lord Mountbatten.
This isn’t the first time Kate and William have honoured Lord Mountbatten with their name choices.
The royal baby name choice is said to be after Prince Charles’ great uncle and close confidante Lord Louis Mountbatten
Prince George’s full name is George Alexander Louis, once again believed to be a tribute.
The full royal baby name – Louis Arthur Charles – was included in the Kensington Palace tweet.
While the name Arthur – a homage to a legendary British king – was a betters’ favourite, it is said Charles is a tribute to Louis’s grandfather.
The tweet reads: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles.
“The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.”
Which other royals have the royal baby name Louis? It has become a special trend among royals.
Prince William’s middle name is Louis, as is Prince George’s. The next three in line to the throne all share one of the names also; Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince William Arthur Philip Louis and Prince Louis Arthur Charles.
Ladbrokes booking odds found that Louis was just 8/1, and was tenth in the list.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Prince Louis has caught both bookies and punters by surprise.
“With it being one of Prince George’s middle names fans didn’t see it as an obvious front runner for Kate and Wills second son.”
