Ms King, who is close friends with Oprah, claimed Prince Harry also had a conversation with his father Prince Charles.
Appearing on CBS This Morning, she said: “I am not trying to break news but I did actually call them to see how they were feeling and it’s true, Harry has talked to his brother and his father too.
“The word I was given was that those conversations were not productive.”
However, she added, the royals “are glad they at least started a conversation.”
Ms King also said: “And I think what it is still upsetting to them is that the palace keeps saying they want to work it out privately and yet they believe these false stories are coming out that are very disparaging against Meghan still, no one in the Royal Family has talked to Meghan yet at this particular time and I think it is frustrating for them to see there is a racial conversation about the Royal Family when all they wanted all along for the royals to intervene and tell the press to stop with the unfair inaccurate false stories that have a racial slant.
“And until you can’t acknowledge that I think it’s going to be difficult to move forward, but they both want to move forward with this and they both want healing in this family, at the end of the day this is Harry’s family.”

The broadcaster’s revelation suggested Meghan and Harry opened up about private conversations with the senior royals.
This suggestion was discussed by many royal watchers on Twitter.
ITV royal editor Chris Ship wrote: “Clearly, GayleKing would not have shared these comments with millions of viewers without Meghan’s permission so this marks a significant new approach.
Private family dissuasions will now be made public if Meghan wants it out there. She has plenty of people who can do it for her.”
Commentator and Saturday Diary editor at the Daily Mail Richard Eden said: “This is extraordinary. Are we going to have a running commentary for years to come from Harry and Meghan’s friends on their relations with the Royal Family?
“If so, the Royals will be wary of speaking to them”.
Prince Harry spoke with Oprah about his relationships with William and Charles
A royal fan wrote: “Is this how is going to be from now on? Each conversation reported into the newspapers?”
Another said: “That will be the last time. How can you talk to someone who briefs Gayle King who then tells the world?”
And a third added: “Why on earth is Gayle King speaking about private conversations?
“And why on earth are they telling her?

“This won’t want to make William speak to them anymore if every conversation is being broadcast and criticised.”
Finally, a social media user wrote: “It’s so tacky!! Why does the world need an update on this. Let them deal with it privately.”
The conversations reported by Ms King come one week after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah first aired in the US on CBS on Sunday and in the UK on ITV on Monday evening.
During this landmark two-hour-long chat, Meghan and Harry opened up on their relationship with the palace and senior royals.
Prince Harry is the youngest brother of Prince William
Speaking about Prince Charles, the Duke of Sussex said he “feels let down” by his father, accused not to have been supporting despite having gone through a similar experience more than two decades ago.
And, discussing his bond with Prince William, Harry said time will heal their rift but at the time their relationship is one of “space”.
The Duke of Sussex also told Oprah: “I love William to bits. He’s my brother. We’ve been through hell together.
“I mean, we have a shared experience. But we… you know, we’re on… we’re on different paths.”
Meghan and Harry also told Oprah concerns were raised over “how dark” Archie’s skin would be while the Duchess was pregnant.
And the Duchess of Sussex also confessed she was suicidal during her first pregnancy – adding she had sought help from the palace but was told they could not support her.
Last Tuesday, the Queen released a 61-word statement in response to the interview, saying they would deal with the issues raised “privately” as a family.
Prince Harry and Prince William at the Sussexes’ wedding
Meghan and Prince Harry officially stepped down as full-time working royals at the end of March last year, three months after they first announced to the world their intention to “step back” as working royals and carve out a “progressive new role” within the Royal Family.
As a result of Megxit, the Sussexes lost their rights to carry out royal engagements and serve the Crown, use the word ‘royal’ in their brand and have security paid for by taxpayers.
Moreover, they did not lose their titles but were asked not to use their HRH styles.
Last month, the Queen also announced the Sussexes were to return their military and royal patronages following their decision not to return as full-time working royals 12 months after Megxit.
In turn, Meghan and Harry can now live abroad and have become financially independent from the Sovereign Grant.
