Harry and Meghan will look ‘petty’ if they snub King’s Coronation invite, warns expert

EXCLUSIVE: The fact Prince Harry and Meghan have received an invitation to the Coronation shows a willingness from both sides to repair their fractured relationship, a PR expert told Express.co.uk.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could look “petty” if they choose to snub King Charles’ Coronation invite, a PR expert told Express.co.uk. Prince Harry can still “stand by everything he said” in his memoir but choosing to skip the historic event would be a “stronger statement” than attending, they said.

Luana Ribeira, a PR expert from Dauntless PR, told Express.co.uk the fact Harry and Meghan have received an invitation to the Coronation shows a willingness from both sides to repair their fractured relationship.

She said: “In the court of public opinion, whatever Prince Harry and Meghan choose to do will attract criticism from someone.

“I do think the fact that they have been invited and have confirmed they have received an invitation suggests there is a willingness on both sides to repair the relationship in some way.

“From a PR perspective, I think Harry and Meghan should attend the Coronation.”

She added: “They are unlikely to be given a key role but Harry is the King’s son and a decision to stay away would be a much stronger statement than a decision to attend.”
Ms Ribeira explained that the Duke can “still stand by everything he said in his book” and attend the historic event.
She said: “I think the Coronation could be an effective way of drawing a line under what has happened so they can all move on in a positive way.
“This will also help reframe the couple’s image with the British public. Staying away could be construed as petty, whereas attending will show that despite their differences, they all still care about each other.”charles

However, Asifur Rehman, founder of PR company Marketer Rakib, warned of potential risks to the couple’s image if they choose to attend.
He told Express.co.uk: “Some members of the public and the media may view their attendance as a PR stunt, and they could face criticism for trying to capitalize on the event.
“Attending the Coronation could draw unwanted attention and media coverage that could distract from the focus of the event and overshadow other members of the Royal Family.”
He added: “Ultimately, the decision to attend the Coronation is a personal one for Prince Harry and Meghan, and they must weigh the potential benefits and risks carefully.

“They may also need to consult with their PR team to ensure that their attendance is handled in a way that reflects positively on them and the Royal Family.”

The Duke and Duchess revealed, via a statement earlier this month, that the King had sent them an invite to the Coronation.

The statement read: “I can confirm The Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation.”

But it noted that an “immediate decision” will not be “disclosed” as to whether they will be at Westminster Abbey on May 6.
