Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are among the recipients of this year’s Ripple of Hope Award, distributed by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organisation (RFKHR).
When the recipients of the award were first announced, the organisation said Meghan and Harry were worthy of the gong for their work on mental health and gender and racial equality among other pressing issues done through their non-profit Archewell Foundation.
Last month, however, the RFKHR’s president – and daughter of Robert F. Kennedy – Kerry Kennedy hailed during an interview with Vanitatis El Confidential’s Gustavo Egusquiza the Sussexes for showing “moral courage” by taking a stance against the “structural racism” they saw in the Firm despite knowing that by doing so they “would be ostracised, they would lose their family, their position within this structure, and that people would blame them for it”.
The Duke and Duchess made blistering allegations of racism and neglect within the Firm in their interview with Oprah Winfrey in early 2021. Meghan and Harry have made no comment regarding this award and have not confirmed their attendance at the gala tonight.

Meghan Markle wears Princess Diana’s $90,000 ring to accept ‘anti-racism’ award
Meghan Markle paid tribute to her late mother-in-law by wearing Princess Diana’s aquamarine ring.
The ring was first commissioned by Princess Diana in 1996 to replace her engagement ring after her divorce from King Charles.
The ring is estimated to be worth $90,000 (£74,122), and Princess Diana wore it while doing charity work for the Aid Crisis Trust in 1997.
This evening, Meghan wore the ring to the Ripple of Hope Gala in New York, where she and Prince Harry are being awarded for fighting against “structural racism”.
The Duchess of Sussex first wore the ring in 2018 for her wedding reception, which she wore as her “something blue” as part of the wedding tradition to bring brides good luck.

Representatives for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have defended the use of stock images and footage in trailers for the couple’s Netflix miniseries.
They argue that the use of such photos and vision is “standard practice”.
A source familiar with the making of the documentary has told The Daily Telegraph that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not have editorial control of the trailers.
Criticism emerged after numerous scenes were included that showed paparazzi and press photographers out of context, including events where the Royal Family weren’t even present.
For example, one photograph showed photographers at the premier of a Harry Potter film in 2011 several years before the Duke and Duchess met.

She told El Confidencial: “They went to the oldest institution in UK history and told them what they were doing wrong, that they couldn’t have structural racism within the institution; that they could not maintain a misunderstanding about mental health.
