‘Five in the morning!’ Queen insists on afternoon tea at bizarre times when traveling

THE QUEEN will never miss her afternoon tea, no matter where in the world she is, according to her former palace chef.

He told Hello! magazine: “She’d always have afternoon tea wherever she was in the world.

“We’d flown out to Australia and were on the Royal Yacht.

“It was five o’clock in the morning but for the Queen it was five in the afternoon so my first job was making scones.”

For her afternoon tea, the Queen also enjoys an Earl Grey tea with a selection of cakes including ginger cake and chocolate biscuit cake.

The Queen reportedly is a “chocoholic” and enjoys everything sweet.

“She is absolutely a chocoholic…Anything we put on the menu that had chocolate on, she would choose, especially chocolate perfection pie [a layered chocolate pie with white and dark chocolate and chocolate shavings],” McGrady said.

McGrady has said that the chocolate biscuit cake is one of the Queen’s favourites, but she isn’t the only royal to have a sweet tooth.

The chocolate biscuit cake recipe is also beloved by Prince William.

The Duke of Cambridge loved the cake upon trying it at afternoon tea with his grandmother – so much so that it was his wedding cake in 2011.

“When Prince William first tried it, he loved it and then requested it as his groom’s cake,” McGrady said.

The former royal chef has even published the recipe on his website for people looking to bake the same cake Prince William and Kate Middleton had at their wedding.
