Who will pay for Meghan Markle and Harry’s wedding? Plans for Royal Wedding REVEALED
Meghan Markle’s family will not pay towards the US actress’ wedding to Prince Harry even though the Middleton parents did when Kate married Prince William for the Royal Wedding in 2011, according to a royal commentator.
“Meghan’s family would not be asked to do so as their circumstances are very different.”
Quite how deep the Middletons dug into their pockets remains private.
Kensington Palace last year confirmed the Royal Family would pay for the “core aspects” of Harry and Meghan’s Windsor Castle wedding in May, including the church service, the music, the flowers and the reception.

But it is believed taxpayers will still be forced to pick up a runway bill to cover the cost of security, as was the case for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding in 2011.

Richard Fitzwilliams, royal commentator
An estimated 5,000 police officers guarded the public for the royal wedding in 2011 and the same number may be needed for Meghan and Harry’s wedding.
There are a varying estimates over how much security at Prince William and Kate’s wedding cost, from £7million to as much as £20million.

But it is understood the government provided police with a £3.6million grant to cover the cost of overtime pay for officers.
Mr Fitzwilliams said: “There is also the cost of the military contingent which, considering Harry’s service and continued close links with the forces, will undoubtedly be present.
“At William and Kate’s wedding, a semi-state occasion, troops already on ceremonial duty were used and not those on active service. There was a bank holiday which was costly to commemorate.”

But Mr Fitzwilliams said the amount of publicity and tourism the wedding would help bring in returns for Britons.
He added: “It should be borne in mind that the avalanche of publicity that will accompany the wedding of the world’s most eligible royal bachelor to a high profile American actress and activist will attract a huge global audience especially in the US and tourism will undoubtedly benefit.

“The actual cost may never be known but the amount of excitement and goodwill generated by this wedding, evidence of a more inclusive Royal Family, is incalculable.”
