Charles visits royal baby Prince Louis with a birthday surprise for Princess Charlotte
PRINCE Charles has flown in to visit his new grandson Prince Louis for the first time at Kensington Palace with his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, as the proud grandparents also celebrated Princess Charlotte’s third birthday.
Following the birth of Prince Louis, royal fans were quick to notice the Prince of Wales was not among a string of visitors who visited the royal baby boy last week.
But Prince Charles has now visited the fifth-in-line to the throne after Louis was born as the Prince of Wales jetted to France for a royal engagement.
A Clarence House spokeswoman would not confirm the date of the visit, adding: “It’s a private family matter.”
However, it is thought Charles delayed his visit to coincide with Princess Charlotte’s third birthday today.
The heir to the throne has also been busy with royal engagements including an Anzac Day service on behalf of the Queen in France last Wednesday and is believed to have flown in to London from Scotland where he has been working.
In a statement released after Prince Louis’s birth, Prince Charles joked that he doe does not know how he will keep up with his new grandson alongside Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
The Prince of Wales in a statement said: “We are both so pleased at the news.
“It is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them.”
Prince Louis’s full name gives a nod to his grandfather as the royal baby’s full moniker is His Royal Highness Prince Louis Arthur Charles of Cambridge.
Charles and Camilla’s visit comes as the Queen was photographed emerging from a helicopter after it landed at Kensington Palace as she visited her new great-grandson.
The pictures, which emerged yesterday, show the Queen holding flowers as she got into a Range Rover in a headscarf and pink jumper.
The Queen landed in Perks Field after a 40-minute flight from Windsor.
Although the visit was likely for the new royal baby, the monarch surely spent time with her other great-grandchildren Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
Her Majesty has been staying with her husband, Prince Philip, at Windsor Castle.
Prince Philip is still recovering from his hip replacement surgery last month and the Queen was also in Windsor to mark the official start of the London Marathon – which was the day before Prince Louis was born.
The royal baby has also been visited by his other grandparents Carole and Michael Middleton and his auntie Pippa.
Pippa was spotted visiting her new nephew after the little one was brought home from the hospital.
Kate’s sister was seen leaving the royal residence wearing a pastel pink sweater and coat as she drove away in a black SUV.
The new auntie looked radiant as smiled to photographers as she left the grounds.
Kate’s mother Carole has also been helping the Duchess and was spotted buying baby supplies at a nearby Boots.
An insider described Carole’s help as “invaluable” to Kate as her mother has also been helping out with Prince George, who attends school, and Princess Charlotte, who attends nursery.
Prince Harry and his fiancee Meghan Markle are also likely to have visited Prince Louis, as the pair lives in Nottingham Cottage, which is on the Kensington Palace estate.
