Diana, Princess of Wales and Prince Charles’ wedding on 29 July 1981 made Diana the first royal bride to have had a paying job before her engagement to an heir, reports Pop Sugar. Similarly, the Duchess of Cambridge became the UK’s first royal bride with a university degree.

Prior to her engagement, Diana worked as a teacher at Young England School in Pimlico. The charitable princess took on the role after returning to London from the exclusive Chateau D’Oex finishing school in Rougemont, Switzerland in 1978.

Even after marrying into the royal family she carried on with her charity work, most notably for Great Ormond Street Hospital and The National Aids Trust.
