Kate Middleton: Duchess of Cambridge goes by THESE names in Scotland and Northern Ireland

Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has a number of different names, and the pregnant wife of Prince William’s real name is not “Kate Middleton” at all.

Kate Middleton has numerous names that she can choose to use, and some of them depend on her location.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 35, is not actually called Kate Middleton at all, although this is what she is often called by the public.

Kate was born Catherine Elizabeth Middleton, and when she married her husband Prince William, she was given the option to use numerous names.

William, 35, was made a duke on his wedding, which is customary in the royal family, and was given the Duchy of Cambridge. This made him and his wife Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

However, Kate does not always go by this name in different parts on the UK.

In Briton’s various smaller countries Kate has different, little-known official titles that she goes by.

When she is in Scotland Kate goes by Countess of Strathearn.

This title is reserved for anyone who is the wife of the current holder of the title Earl of Strathearn – which is Prince William.

When in Northern Ireland Kate has the title Lady Carrickfergus, reserved for the wife of Baron Carrickfergus, which also happens to be Prince William.

Kate sometimes uses the two names in a fuller version of her title, when she goes by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn and Lady Carrickfergus.

Kate also has the luxury of going by Princess William, if she so chooses, although she has not been known to use this title.

The royal family last names are a confusing issue for any Brit who is know familiar with royal practises.

They often use Mountbatten-Windsor, as a nod to both Queen Elizabeth whose last name is Windsor, and Prince Philip whose last name is Mountbatten.

So what is Prince George’s and Princess Charlotte’s last name?

This is a fairly confusing issue, and the pair could also use Mountbatten-Windsor or they might go under the last name Cambridge.
