We know him as the always-charming Prince Harry, but his late mother Diana had another adorable name for her youngest son.
It’s been revealed that because of his flame-red hair, Diana used to call Harry by the nickname ‘my little Spencer’.
Spencer was Diana’s maiden name, and so the cute moniker was used to emphasise that Harry got his red hair from her side of the family – and not from Diana’s red-headed former lover James Hewitt, as rumours would have it at the time.

But as sweet as her sentiment was, it isn’t all that scientifically correct.
The two percent of the global population who share in Harry’s red hair actually get it thanks to the mutated MC1R gene, which has to be present in both parents – so it couldn’t have come only from the Spencer family’s side.
Interestingly, ‘Harry’ isn’t even Harry’s real name to begin with, after he was actually born Henry.
Yep, it’s all very confusing. Photo: Getty
Harry is of course a popular derivative of the name Henry, and it’s believed it’s the name Diana and Charles initially wanted to call their son.
At least the Prince is in good company when it comes to this matter, as his girlfriend Megan Markle also goes by a different name.
Meghan’s birth name is Rachel Meghan Markle – ironically the same moniker as her famous Suits character Rachel Zane.
Turns out Meghan isn’t called Meghan either!
It’s not know why the Canadian actress decided to change her name and use Meghan instead – aside from the awesome alliteration, obviously.
However it’s thought that like Katy Perry, Demi Moore, Olivia Wilde and Helen Mirren, she decided to drop the Rachel and use her middle name as her stage name.
