Cliff Richard unveiled young Prince Harry’s cheeky response after ‘yawning’ at him

CLIFF RICHARD unveiled the cheeky response from a young Prince Harry after the royal “yawned” at him.

In one interaction, Sir Cliff recalled his knighthood, which he described as “one of the greatest days of my life”.

However, an unfortunate mishap caught out the performer at the ceremony.

He admitted it was “such a shock” when he was knighted in 1995 – becoming the first pop star to receive the title of Sir.

The singer considered it a “big deal and privilege” to be awarded “the ultimate honour” for his services to charity.

Sir Cliff, who was born Harry Rodger Webb, recalled one courtier advising him to hold the rail when he stood up after being knighted.

The singer boldly responded: “I don’t think I’ll need that.”

However, the royal aide told him about previous recipients who had been “so nervous” that they “fell onto the stage”.

Sir Cliff nearly suffered a similar gaffe during the ceremony, which he described in his autobiography Cliff Richard: The Dreamer.

After his shoulders were tapped by the Queen’s ceremonial sword, she told him that the honour had been “a long time coming”.

Sir Cliff admitted that he could barely talk due to being so overwhelmed by the procession and was shaking.

He recalled: “I said, well Lord knows what I said.

“My brain had frozen and I mumbled some utter rubbish.”

Fortunately for Sir Cliff, the Queen “smiled sympathetically” but he still felt embarrassed by the situation.

He jokingly noted that Her Majesty must have questioned why she “didn’t give” the knighthood “to somebody who [could] speak English”.

In another amusing encounter with the royals, Sir Cliff recalled meeting a young Prince Harry.

The future Duke of Sussex along with Prince William, Prince Charles and Princess Diana were holidaying at a ski resort in Lech, Austria, when their paths crossed.

After they met, Sir Cliff claimed he and the royals met up for drinks to make the most of their free time.

Last year, he told Lorraine: “We would always sing in the bar of the hotel.”

During their time together, he recalled: “I saw Harry go [imitates yawning].

“We stopped and I said, ‘Prince Harry, do you know any rock n roll?’”

Sir Cliff revealed his shock and surprise at the youngster’s response.

Harry allegedly told him: “Well yeah, do you know Great Balls Of Fire?”

Sir Cliff had to double-take due to the regular references to sex in the lyrics.

The song, which was released by Jerry Lee Lewis in 1961, features words including: “Kiss me, baby, ooh, feels good.

“Hold me, baby… Well, I’ll still love you like a lover should.”

After being asked if he knew Great Balls Of Fire, Sir Cliff responded: “Yeah I do but how do you know it?”

The singer claimed the Prince told him: “Oh mummy plays it all the time.”
