Princess Anne deserves to be given a special honour by King Charles III, a new poll of readers has found. The Princess Royal, Queen Elizabeth II’s only daughter, has taken a visible role at all events to mark her mother’s death. She took on the responsibility of accompanying the late monarch’s coffin on its final journey from Balmoral to London.

The King has been asked to find a “special way” to honour Anne for her commitment to the Queen.

Journalist Alastair Stewart said that Anne, alongside her sister-in-law Sophie Wessex, should be honoured for their “love, constancy and support at this difficult time”.

The GB News presenter tweeted on Monday, September 12: “I hope the King finds some very special way of further honouring the Princess Royal and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, for their love, constancy and support at this difficult time.”

In a poll that ran from 7am on Monday, September 19, to 3pm on Wednesday, September 21, asked readers: “Should King Charles III give Princess Anne special honour?”

Overall, some 7,346 readers responded, with “yes” winning by a landslide 98 percent (7,195 people).

Whereas, two percent (130 people) answered “no”, Anne should not be given a special honour.

Meanwhile, just 21 people said they did not know either way.

The majority of readers praised Anne’s dedication to her role and were in favour of her receiving a special honour

Harry ‘not welcomed’ by Anne and Sophie Wessex at Philip’s funeral — unearthed accounts

And username Henry Spencer said: “Definitely yes. Princess Anne is a rock. Charles will need support.”

However, other readers questioned whether Anne would be willing to accept any recognition for her hard work.

Username Radiotimes wrote: “Would Anne actually WANT any sort of honour?”

While username adelesaysfude commented: “She never seeks attention or to be lifted above others. She’s a gem.”

In her column for the Telegraph, Camilla Tominey, referenced a former royal aide who said: “I don’t think anything will change for the Princess at all. She doesn’t need to do any stepping up, she’s already done that.

“I don’t think there will be any change in her status or titles and she’s never indicated that she wants to slow down.”

They added: “She’s a workaholic and incredibly well respected by her charities and patronages, so she’ll surely just keep calm and carry on.”
