‘She said George and Charlotte are competitive!’ Paula Radcliffe says Kate revealed her children’s sibling rivalry when they swapped parenting stories at a marathon training session

The Duchess of Cambridge is a keen sportswoman.
So it is perhaps of little surprise to learn her children Prince George and Princess Charlotte have inherited her competitive streak.
Marathon star Paula Radcliffe revealed how she was given the rare insight into the young royals when she met Kate Middleton in London earlier this month.
The 43-year-old athlete told MailOnline how she and Kate, 35, swapped parenting stories as they took part in a relay race against Prince William and Prince Harry at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Marathon world record holder Radcliffe, who was put on the same team as Kate, said the duchess ‘did well’ in the race, even though she lost to her husband and brother-in-law.
She said: ‘I think we were just having a laugh about how children are naturally competitive. She was saying [her] children are competitive and I was saying that I think it is a good thing and that we should nurture competitiveness in children.’
While it is not known how George, three, and Charlotte, one, like to compete, Radcliffe said her own children, daughter Isla, 10, and six-year-old son Raphael, make up games to play and even race to see who can brush their teeth the fastest.
The youngsters also channel their energy into a number of sporting activities, from swimming to tennis and five-a-side football, Paula said.
And while many parents might struggle to keep their children away from a screen, Paula said her children have always been naturally active.
‘They have gown up in an environment with people who are active so it is not a conscious efforts on their part,’ she said.
The long-distance runner, who retired from professional athletics in 2015, lives in Monaco with her children and husband, Gary Lough.
The couple try and prepare healthy family meals but Paula, an ambassador for Revive Active supplements, admitted her son and daughter have very different tastes.
She said: ‘My daughter will actually just go an get a handful of fresh fruit or raw… but my son will grab the packet of Oreos or something like that.’
A relaxed approach to her children’s diet is part of Radcliffe’s philosophy on keeping fit and healthy. She said: ‘If you are active, then a good balanced diet is better than restricting yourself.’
However Paula admitted it is sometimes difficult to get the necessary nutrients from food alone.

She added: ‘It is always better to have a completely balanced diet and get everything from food but that’s not always practical in this day and age.’
