Royal baby UPDATE: Kate ready for labour as THOMAS becomes ‘new name’ shock
The Duchess of Cambridge could go into labour any moment now as the world collectively prepares to welcome her and Prince William’s third child. Punters are now submitting their last-minute odds on a baby boy named Prince Thomas.
Royal pundits are placing their bets on Kate and William giving birth to a healthy little prince sometime this month.
Prince Thomas has emerged as a serious candidate among the list of firm favourites, according to bookmaker Ladbrokes.
A rapid flurry of last-minute bets slashed the odds for Thomas from 66/1 down to a strong 20/1 overnight.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Prince Thomas of Cambridge does have a nice ring to it, even if the name doesn’t immediately spring out as a traditional, regal name.
“However, Kate and Wills are modernising the Royal Family, so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see them opt for a ‘normal’ name.”
But the name is still well behind the nation’s firm favourites of Arthur at 5/1 for a boy and Mary at 6/1 for a girl.
Some of the other touted candidates include James at 8/1, Frederik at 16/1 and Diana at 20/1.
Here are the latest royal baby odds from Ladbrokes.
Gender of third royal baby:
Boy – 10/11
Girl – Evens

The news follows suggestions Kate and William could chose to name a baby girl Princess Camilla in honour of William’s stepmother.
However, the odds of this happening are relatively low according to Betfair spokeswoman Katie Baylis, who told Express.co.uk such a move would stun the nation.
Ms Baylis said: “The odds of the baby being called Camilla are at 100/1 and it would be a huge shock if the couple overlooked William’s mother Diana for his stepmother when naming the baby.
“Diana is currently at 20/1, however Mary, at 6/1 is the favourite girls’ name.
“At this stage though it’s actually Arthur which is the 5/1 favourite, with a big four-figure bet this week on the baby being a boy meaning that we are leaning towards boys names as the favourites.”
Instead the baby looks to be named Arthur, Edward or Mary according to Betfair’s April 19 odds.
Ms Baylis also teased the baby could be ready to arrive any moment now, based on the number of bets placed this week.
She said: “The betting would suggest that the baby will be arriving any day now and after a flurry of bets we have cut the price on the baby to arrive this week into 2/5 from evens.
“We have also cut, in the what day of the week market, Wednesday into 3/1 and Thursday into 9/2 both from 11/2.”
Kensington Palace has only revealed Kate would be giving birth in April at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London.
