Camilla opens door to Harry and Meghan with special gesture ahead of Coronation

The Queen’s decision could leave the Palace “hard-pressed” to explain any exclusion of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the Coronation.

Queen Camilla ‘has watched The Crown’ says royal expert

Queen Camilla has left the door open to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with a special gesture before King Charles’s Coronation, a royal expert has said. Camilla has asked for four of her five grandchildren to take over a duty traditionally carried out by four duchesses, it has been reported. Author Gareth Russell argued it would be hard for the Palace to exclude Harry and Meghan because they are non-working royals if Camilla’s grandchildren participate.

“Unlike previous Queen Consorts who were crowned, the canopy over them at the moment of consecration was held by four duchesses.

“She has said she doesn’t want four duchesses, she wants her four grandchildren to carry the canopy over her, which is a lovely gesture.

“She’s very close to her grandchildren but what that does is it upsets the argument that, since Harry is not a working royal, there’s no place for him in the ceremony.”

Prince Harry’s Coronation ‘request’ questioned as Duke missed Archie’s birthday last year

Royal fans have taken to Twitter to point out Prince Harry wasn’t at home for the whole day when Prince Archie Harrison turned three in May 2022.

This comes after it was claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have asked for the fourth birthday of their son, which falls on the day of King Charles’s Coronation, to be acknowledged in some way before they decide whether to attend the historic event.

Camilla has three grandchildren from her daughter Laura – Eliza, 15, and twins Gus and Louis, 14.

Her son, Thomas Parker Bowles, is the dad of 16-year-old Lola and Freddy, 12.

Russell suggested including the non-royal grandchildren in the Coronation would leave the Palace “hard-pressed” to explain why no position could be found for Harry and Meghan.

He added: “Obviously, Queen Camilla’s grandchildren are not only not working royals, they’ve never been working royals.

Prince Harry’s at risk of deportation over drug use

“So if a space can be found for them the Palace is going to be very hard-pressed to explain why no role could be found for Prince Harry.”

The Queen is known to be very close with her grandchildren and has included them in her royal life from an early age.

The five joined the Royal Family at Sandringham for Christmas last year and Eliza even served as a flower girl at Prince William’s wedding to Kate, the Princess of Wales in 2011.

Camilla even shared some details about her relationship with her granddaughter, admitting last year she played Wordle every day with Lola.

“It’s very satisfactory when it tells you how brilliant you are.”

The Queen Consort added: “The girls are beginning to get into clothes and make-up and, you know, it’s rather frightening when you see them, coming out with pierced ears and a lot of new make-up and funny-coloured hair and stuff.”

She noted her twin grandsons would often keep tabs on her, and would send her messages to check-in.

Camilla said: “It’s very nice getting a text. We learn from very young people and they learn from us, too. That’s the way it’s always been.”
