As far as family reunions go, this one was a little more awkward than most.
Prince Philip and Fergie came face to face for the first time in more than 20 years at Princess Eugenie’s wedding in Windsor on Friday.
And official photographs taken by fashion and portrait photographer Alex Bramall offer no clue that the pair have been engaged in a lengthy and bitter feud.
In fact, they can be seen standing next to each other in one picture, with both royals smiling at the camera as the proud mother of the bride stands behind Philip’s shoulder.
Eugenie’s marriage to Jack Brooksbank meant that the pair had to spend time together for the first time in over two decades.
And according to protocol, the bridal party must be photographed together, so the pair had to put their bad blood aside. Fergie was cast out from the royals amid her toe-sucking scandal in the 1990s. Pictures emerged of the topless duchess’ toes being sucked by her lover Johnny Bryan, and she went on to divorce Prince Andrew in 1996.
Her relationship with Philip became particularly sour – he even told other members of the family not to help her with money, it is believed. Ahead of the ceremony in Windsor on Friday, she smiled and waved to guests as she took her seat. However, she appeared to bow her head slightly when Philip passed her in the chapel. The photo, taken later inside the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle, is believed to be the first time she and Philip have been pictured together in 26 years.
