“That said, they are very much part of Charles’ family. He made that very clear”.
She added that, despite the distance, “I think he wants to see his grandchildren”.
Ms Koenig continued: “They are very much his family, which is very different from having a role within the Royal Family.”
She recalled how Charles had got “a bench made for all the grandchildren, the swing”.
As it was seen getting put into a car following a visit to the UK in 2021, she added: “Everyone surmised was it was, that it was for Lili, because he has made it for his grandchildren.
“Each one has their name on it.”
She also mentioned when Charles’ four-year-old grandson Prince Louis was spotted getting up from his chair next to his mum, the Princess of Wales, and went to sit on his grandfather’s lap during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
She said this moment “said it all” about the relationship, and love, that Charles has with his grandchildren.
As well as Archie, Lilibet, and Louis, Charles has two other grandchildren.
He is also grandfather to Prince George, 9, and Princess Charlotte, 7.
Through his marriage to Queen Consort Camilla, he has five step-grandchildren.
Prince Harry’s daughter turned one during the visit.
The little girl, affectionately nicknamed Lili, was born in the US the year after Meghan and Harry’s royal exit.
