PRINCE Charles and Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer were coping with “bad blood” and “love lost” after the demise, a Royal editor has claimed.

Princess Diana’s brother and Prince of Wales shared a rocky relationship after Princess Diana’s death. Emily Andrews claimed that there was a “lot of bad blood” between the two especially during the time of funeral discussion. Prince Charles made an “offensive” comment about Princess Diana during the discussion of the funeral over the phone with Charles Spencer and it ended with “love lost” amongst them.

Emily Andrews, the Royal Editor at Mail on Sunday said: “There was lot of bad blood between the two, I remember someone telling me that the two men were talking on the telephone about the arrangements, the private arrangements for the funeral and Prince of Wales said something and Charles Spencer just hung up on him in anger.

“So definitely there was love lost between two men.”Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer, attends the UK premiere of

Robert Lacey, a biographer described about the incident in her book Battle of Brothers: William and Harry—the Friendship and the Feuds.

He said: ”Spencer felt quite sure that Diana would have been horrified at the idea of her sons having to endure such an ordeal. He had already told Charles as much.”

There phone call “ended with the Earl slamming down the phone on his brother-in-law after Charles had made a particularly offensive comment about Diana.”

Lacey continued: “Prince Charles had no doubt that he should walk the long route with both his sons beside him. But Uncle Charles Spencer did not agree. He was already angry on his family’s behalf that his sister’s funeral had been hijacked into a royal occasion, and he was particularly opposed to the idea that his young nephews should have to walk the best part of a mile behind their mother’s coffin through the streets.”

Christine-Marie Liwag Dixon, a writer and an editor of The List spoke largely about the unhealthy relationship between Prince Charles and Charles Spencer.

She said: “Maintaining a good relationship with the in-laws can be pretty tough. But add a divorce and things can get even worse.

“Factor in a tragic death, and you’ve got the perfect storm. According to Page Six, things went downhill for Prince Charles after his divorce from Princess Diana and her untimely death, when it came to his interactions with her family members.”

Ms Liwag Dixon continued: “It was just days after Diana’s death when her ex-husband and her brother got into a massive fight over the phone.”

During an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today programme in 2017 where he expresses his ordeal while walking behind his sister’s coffin.

“We would walk a 100 yards and hear people sobbing and then walk round a corner and somebody wailing and shouting out messages of love to Diana or William and Harry, and it was a very, very tricky time.

“In her final years in particular, Diana was really brought low by elements of the paparazzi and the tabloids.

“I remember she told me about one man who promised to hound her until the day she died and he would urinate on her grave.

“So she was dealing with a very dark side of the media and even at her funeral I thought it was appropriate to touch on that.”
