Zara Tindall has royal baby: Queen ‘delighted’ as girl delivered with Mike by wife’s side
ZARA Tindall has given birth to a baby girl, weighing 9lbs 3oz, a Royal Family spokesman has confirmed. The 37-year-old’s husband Mike Tindall was by her side when she gave birth to the royal baby at Stroud Maternity Unit in Gloucestershire on Monday.
Zara, the Queen’s granddaughter, and rugby star Mike are already parents to adorable four-year-old Mia.
The new baby is 19th in line to the throne and the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh’s seventh great-grandchild, who are “delighted” at the news.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “Mrs Michael Tindall was safely delivered of a baby girl on 18th June, at Stroud Maternity Unit. Mr Tindall was present at the birth.
“The weight of the baby was 9lbs 3oz.
“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal, Captain Mark Phillips and Mike’s parents, Mr Philip and Mrs Linda Tindall, have been informed and are delighted with the news.
“The baby’s name will be confirmed in due course.
“This baby is the second child for Zara and Mike, the fourth grandchild for The Princess Royal and the seventh great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.”
The baby is also a second cousin to Kate and Prince William’s children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
She is the heaviest royal baby in more than 100 years.
The previous record holder was Prince Louis who weighed 8lbs and 6oz when he was born on April 23 this year.
The happy announcement comes more than a year after the couple faced heartbreak when Zara suffered a miscarriage just before Christmas in 2016.
The new arrival is not an HRH and does not have a title.
Mike Tindall has no title himself and Zara, born down the female line as the offspring of the daughter of a sovereign, is not entitled to be an HRH.
Zara’s father, Captain Mark Phillips, was believed to have been offered an earldom by the Queen when he married Princess Anne, but chose not to take it.
The Tindalls are known for their down-to-earth approach to parenting and relaxed attitude to life.
Hands-on father Mike is often seen cheering on Zara at horse trials while carrying Mia on his shoulders or playfully throwing his feisty daughter in the air.
Zara, 37, has spoken of how fortunate she was to have had a “slightly more normal” upbringing than the rest of her royal relatives.
She once said: ”I’ve been very lucky. My parents didn’t give us titles, so we’ve been able to have a slightly more normal upbringing.
“As soon as you’ve got a title, it’s very difficult to shed it.”
The new baby can expect to grow up immersed in the equestrian world and to learn to ride at an early age.
Zara, is a champion rider who won a team silver in the London 2012 Olympics.
She and former England rugby player Mike have been together for 15 years and married in Edinburgh in July 2011.
