Royal wedding: Will royal baby go to Meghan Markle’s wedding with Kate Middleton?
IT is a busy time of the year for the Royal Family, with the imminent arrival of the Royal Baby and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding around the corner, but can we expect the two events to collide? Will the Royal Baby attend the Royal Wedding?
According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child will not attend the wedding in May.
The Royal Baby is expected in April and even though there will be considerable interest in the arrival of the third baby and fifth in line to the throne, Mr Fitzwilliams said William and Kate would like less coverage and prefer not to take the limelight away from Meghan and Harry on their big day.
He told Express.co.uk: “They certainly won’t bring the baby to the wedding, this will ensure that the focus is on Harry and Meghan as of course it should be.
“It is certainly expected that Prince George and Princess Charlotte are page boy and flower girl or bridesmaid.
“There is a long royal tradition where royal children play key roles at weddings which is charming.”
It is customary for Kate and William to pose with their newborn outside the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, as the couple did with both Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
The couple release official photographs of their children around a month after their birth.
Prince George was born on July 22, 2013 and official photographs were released on August 20 and Princess Charlotte was born on May 2, 2015 and the first photos were published on June 6.
On September 4, 2017, Kensington Palace announced Kate was expecting her third child, however the announcement is believed to have been made earlier than planned because of her severe morning sickness.
Kate’s first two pregnancies were also announced before the 12-week mark. Based on when Kensington Palace announced the previous pregnancies, Kate is due in late April.
The palace confirmed in a tweet in October 2017: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in April 2018.”
However, the royal duo are unlikely to release official photographs of the baby a month after the birth, as the timing means it may coincide with the date of the royal wedding on May 19.
Mr Fitzwilliams said: “Matters will be timed so nothing overshadows the wedding. They can release the official photos at a later date. Perhaps Kate will be the photographer as she was with Charlotte when she took the first official photographs.”
Carolyn Harris, royal historian, also believes the baby will be kept away from the wedding as he or she will only be a few weeks old.
She explained children who are not part of the wedding party rarely attend Royal Weddings.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte stole the show as page boy and flower girl at Pippa Middleotn’s wedding last May and it is likely they will reprise the roles at Harry and Meghan’s wedding this May.
When asked by the Sunday Times whether George and Charlotte would be in the wedding party, Kensington Palace responded: “The wedding will be a family event. You can expect the family to be involved.”
