Lady Gabriella Windsor, the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and the first cousin once removed of the Queen, is tying the knot with Thomas Kingston in the coming weeks and it’s set to be the society event of the spring with a guaranteed scattering of royals in attendance. Here’s everything we know so far.
The engagement news
If you missed the engagement announcement, we’ll forgive you (2018 wasn’t exactly short of royal events). Buckingham Palace sent out a statement on 19th September, shortly before Princess Eugenie’s nuptials, revealing the engagement news.
‘Prince and Princess Michael of Kent are delighted to announce the engagement of their daughter Lady Gabriella Windsor to Mr Thomas Kingston, adding that ‘The engagement took place in August; Mr Kingston proposed on the Isle of Sark.’
The statement helpfully also provided a little bio on the couple, confirming that ‘Lady Gabriella (known as ‘Ella’) is a Senior Director at Branding Latin America, a brand-positioning platform that specialises in the region. She’s also a writer & contributes to The London Magazine.’ The Palace added that Tom, ‘works in frontier market investment & is a Director of Devonport Capital.’
When is Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding?
The Palace has kept rather tight-lipped on the event and all we’ve been told far is that, ‘The wedding will take place in spring of 2019’. It’s unsurprising that public information has been kept closely-guarded since Lady Gabriella prefers to stay out of the press after her ex, writer Aatish Tasser, decided to write a piece for Vanity Fair about his time dating a royal called, Race and the Royals: An Outsider’s View Inside Kensington Palace.
Where is the wedding taking place?
Following in the footsteps of Harry and Meghan, and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, Lady Gabriella and Thomas are to wed at St George’s Chapel, Windsor. We’ve been told it’s likely to be pretty low-key with no carriage procession or members of the public set to be invited into the grounds of Windsor Castle.
What guests are expected?
As a relation to the Queen, there are a number of expected royal guests at Gabriella and Tom’s wedding, including her parents, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, brother Lord Frederick Windsor (or Freddie for short) and sister-in-law, Sophie Windsor (Claudia Winkleman’s half-sister). Gabriella and Tom were both guests at Princess Eugenie’s wedding so we expect them to make an appearance too. We also expect that Pippa Middleton and James Matthews will be there – Pippa and Tom were once an item and the couples are close friends.
