Royal Wedding: Princess Diana ‘worried’ about son Prince Harry’s happiness
The Royal Wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is just weeks away and royal correspondent, Jennie Bond, has revealed Princess Diana was previously worried about her son’s happiness.
Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33, are set to tie the knot in St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle on May 19.
One person who Harry will be missing on his big day is his mother, Princess Diana, who was killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997.
The British royal was just 12-years-old when he lost his mother in the tragic accident, but former BBC royal correspondent, Jennie Bond, who travelled the world with the Princess of Wales, believes she would have approved of her son’s marriage.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Jennie said: “Obviously like any mother I’m sure she would have been delighted.
“It’s impossible to say what Diana would have felt clearly, can’t speak from the grave, but I think she would have approved.”
But the TV host did admit Diana was “anxious” about Harry’s role in the royal family and was worried he wouldn’t find happiness.
Jennie, 67, spilled: “She was always anxious Harry should find his role in life because it’s not easy for the second son and she was worried about him finding happiness.”
Harry and Suits actress Meghan announced their engagement last November, one year after confirming they were in a relationship.
As the big day approaches, Jennie confessed she was surprised by the level of interest in Harry and Meghan’s nuptials.
“It’s going to be a much bigger event than I thought,” she said.
Explaining why she thinks there is a big hype surrounding their wedding, Jennie divulged: “There’s much more interest globally as well as nationally because Harry is a character that people like and he brings a smile to peoples faces.
“I always knew people have a soft spot for Harry, maybe because he’s a mischievous character.
“He’s very personable and I think people have an affection for him.”
With the wedding of the year just around the corner, Photobox is launching a nationwide search for members of the public to send in their favourite pictures of the royal family to produce a unique book called The Crown from the Crowd.
As the face of the campaign, Jennie said she was extremely excited to see the finished project, which will be gifted to Harry and Meghan as a wedding present.
“I think it’s a great idea, it’s going to be a unique book,” she said.
“I think it’s funny that official photographers spend hours and hours waiting for the royal family to turn up to get the official photograph but then someone in the crowd gets a much more relaxed and better one.”
Jennie added: “I think there will be some absolute treasured photos that people don’t realise exist.”
Members of the public are urged to submit their personal royal family snaps accompanied with anecdotes on www.crownfromthecrowd.com by Monday.
The Crown from the Crowd will launch on May 8.
