REVEALED: Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are ‘permitted’ to show affection in public
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are able to show public displays of affection due to the fact the Suits star is not yet a royal and does not have to follow the example of the Queen.
Prince Harry and his girlfriend struggled to keep their hands off each other at the Invictus Games in Toronto last week, leading many to question why the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge fail to show any sort of affection when out in public.
Body language expert, Robin Kermode, told the Mail Online: “The Queen rarely holds hands with her husband in public and this seems to have set an unwritten precedent for the other royals.
“It is very clear that William and Kate are emotionally close, however, they do not seem to feel the need to prove their love – particularly when on official state business.”
“They come across as a strong, independent couple and while they are always on show, they do not feel the need to ‘show’ their love for each other to the world.”
The strict protocols demonstrated by the Queen do not have to be followed in the instances of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle due to the Suit star not yet being a royal.
This means that the 36-year-old actress attended the recent Invictus Games as a guest and was not on royal duty.
The couple’s days of public affection could be numbered with insiders recently revealing Prince Harry and Miss Markle are “as good as engaged” and have discussed their marriage plans openly with family and friends.
An insider said: “While Meghan may not be wearing a ring or a formal engagement announced, it’s fair to say they’re as good as engaged now.
“They’ve spoken about their marriage plans openly with each other and friends and family around them are pretty much thinking about wedding attire already.”
The Invictus Games marked the third time Miss Markle appeared in public with her boyfriend, despite the pair trying to keep their romance under wraps for the last 14 months.
Sources said having the “most important woman in his life” by his side during the games in Toronto meant the world to Harry.
An insider told ENews: “Toronto was an amazing experience for Harry.
“Everything to do with Invictus went according to plan and without hiccups.
“An uplifting and positive week spent doing what he loves most surrounded by good friends and the most important woman in his life.”
