Kate Middleton was previously dubbed as thrifty and low-key during the first three years of her marriage to Prince William. At that time, the Duchess of Cambridge enjoyed a simple life on an island.
After the couple’s royal wedding in 2011, Kate and Prince William lived in the remote island of Anglesey and led relatively normal lives. While there, the royal couple rented a farmhouse on the southwest corner of the island.
In a previous report by the Daily Mail, it was revealed that Kate enjoyed being a housewife to Prince William at that time. She also enjoyed going to the local butcher and fishmonger to buy fresh produce for herself and her husband.
“She liked a bit of salmon fillet or cod loin,” the source said. “She always asked what was fresh that day and always asked about the price. I got the impression that she was quite careful with her money,” the source added.
Royal biographer Michael Thornton also said that he would always see Kate in her favorite supermarket pushing her own trolley. A protection officer accompanied the Duchess of Cambridge during her supermarket visits.
“The Duchess dressed casually and never wore makeup,” he said. “She was always very friendly to the staff who were very proud of the fact that she shopped there. The people here are not terribly royalist-minded and were ambivalent at best about their arrival, but she and William won Anglesey over with their warmth and low-key lifestyle — and trust me, the people of Anglesey are not easily swayed,” he added.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also enjoyed going to the local pub for quiz night. Staff at the White Eagle at Rhoscolyn on the northwestern tip of Anglesey said that Kate and Prince William are just like any other couple in love. The only time that other people realized that they were royals was when they saw a group of armed bodyguards sitting on the next table.
While at the pub, Prince William usually orders a pint or two of bitter drinks. Kate, on the other hand, drinks white wine and sparkling water.
