Zara Tindall’s world champion eventing horse, Toytown, has died at the age of 24.
Her husband, former Gloucester and England captain Mike Tindall, confirmed the news on Twitter.
He wrote: “Sad to say goodbye to the big man today, been a massive part of our lives giving us so many highs! #champ #RIPtoytown .”
Zara Tindall won individual gold and team silver at the World Equestrian Games in 2006 on Toytown, leading to her being named British Sports Personality of the Year.
Tindall also won three European Eventing Championship titles on Toyown, one individual gold at Blenheim in 2005 and two team golds.
However, the horse was unfortunate to miss the 2004 and 2008 Olympics due to injury and retired in 2011 on the final day of the Festival of British Eventing at Gatcombe Park.
Tindall carried the Olympic flame on Toytown at Cheltenham Racecourse in the torch relay for London 2012.
