KATE MIDDLETON showed just how competitive she is after she went head-to-head with husband Prince William today at a regatta on the Isle of Wight.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge both set sail in the King’s Cup regatta which invited eight boats to compete in the race for charity. While Kate Middleton and Prince William are usually on the same team, this afternoon they went head to head as skippers on separate sailing boats. The royal pair have proven to be fiercely competitive – especially with their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, cheering on from the sidelines.
Today eight boats participated in the King’s Cup regatta on the Isle of Wight – with each one representing one of the charities being supported by the couple this year.
In a shock move, the race was moved ahead by a day due to severe weather warnings issued for strong winds and rain tomorrow.
The four charities William was representing at the event were Child Bereavement UK, Centerpoint, London’s Air Ambulance Charity 30th Anniversary campaign and Tusk.
The Duke of Cambridge competed on behalf of Child Bereavement UK, with English footballer Fara Williams, historian Dan Snow, and adventurer Bear Grylls representing his other charities.

The pair have often advocated for the sport and have previously worked to highlight the benefits of sailing – and today was also not the first time the pair had shown off their competitive streaks in a little friendly rivalry.

In London on October 2015, the Cambridge couple competed again – this time Prince Harry joining in.
The trio battled it out to be crowned the winner in a welly wanging contest.
The Duke of Cambridge proved he had the chops after he beat wife Kate and his brother Harry when he knocked off the head of a scarecrow, which was featured in the animated series Shaun The Sheep set, while Kate and Harry both missed.
The three royals competed against one another again in 2017, when they participated in a training session for runners taking part in the London Marathon.
Prince William came second, and was closely followed by his wife – however, Prince Harry sprinted past the pair and secured the win.

Soon afterwards, Prince William and Kate took to the water again as they competed in a rowing race during their royal tour of Germany in July 2017.
Before the race, the Duchess had told reporters, “No pressure, but I do want to beat my husband.”
She had the “advantage” of Olympic gold medalist, Filip Adamski, part of a winning German rowing squad on her team.
But she was still beaten out to the top spot by her husband who was photographed punching the air in delight after his win.

During a sports day in Northern Ireland at the Roscor Youth Village with charity Extern, the couple each participated in a number of activities.
However, they only faced off against one another in one activity – a canoe race.
Prince William’s boat managed to clinch the victory in this occasion too.
Today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were both beaten out to the top spot with broadcaster and adventurer Bear Grylls ending the race as the champion.
Bear Grylls skippered for wildlife conservation charity Tusk in the first race which he won, while Prince William came third and Kate seventh.
